750ml picked up in NC over Easter.
Enjoyed from an Orval glass, somewhere around 40-45 degrees.
Pours with a light, cream-colored head over a cloudy, dark amber body. Small amt of carbonation visible. Great lacing. Thinking this is incorrectly categorized as a BSPA.
Aromas are of lighter fruit. Citrus, green banana peel, and a little bit of yeast. No trace of charred oak barrel.
Very soft mouthfeel for a BSPA. Light spritz bite on the palate. Slightly tart. Some bitter quality from the hops. Flavors lead mostly with ginger, tree fruit - including lime, and navel oranges - and a touch of sourdough bread. The charred oak barrel quality only faintly appears in the finish as it warms, and only if you're looking for it.
Quite interesting, and pretty enjoyable & drinkable beer. IMHO, they should try putting this in 12oz bottles, and sell 6-ers. You could easily make your way thru a six-pack over a nice Spring/Summer evening.

On the cork: best by June 2014
Appearance: copper body; little cloudy; off-white two finger head; nice layers of lacing
Aroma: light bready, soft clove, and nothing else
Flavors: soft rye bread, spice, clove like on the back and aftertaste, I keep on sipping and expecting more and nothing, oh how I wanted the oak barrel to come through, uninspiring,
Mouthfeel: fine fizzy feel from the carbonation, light spice, empty on flavor for a barrel aged ale, short aftertaste
To the Point: plain old uninspiring, it was drinkable, I finished the whole bottle and the flavor nor the mouthfeel ever changed. I won’t buy again.

Pours deep amber with thick head that dissipates to a nice cap. Aromas of banana, spice, and yeast. Yeasty flavor with sweet malt and spicy notes. Barrel-aging hardly noticable. Medium body with refreshing carbonation. An overall refreshing Belgian pale.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass; best before June 2014 on the cork. Pours fairly hazy deep reddish orange color with a nice 2-3 finger foamy and fluffy cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of lemon, orange zest, grapefruit, apple, pear, floral, grass, pepper, light clove, light oak, wheat, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of yeast and hop notes with slight barrel presence. Taste of lemon, orange zest, grapefruit, apple, pear, pepper, clove, floral, grass, light pine, wheat, and earthy yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of citrus, light fruits, pepper, clove, floral, grass, light pine, wheat, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of yeast and hop flavors; with a great balance of malt, hop, and spicy ester notes with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly creamy and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian strong pale ale. All around nice balance and complexity if hop, yeast, and malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. Even though the stated barrel aging presence was minimal, it wasn’t really a determining factor for me with this style. A very enjoyable offering.

Even though Blue Mountain is in my state and is basically a weekend getaway for BAs in the area, this is only my second brew by them.
Served in an Olde Hickory shaped-glass.
A: Looks like a word-class amber ale: Copper in color, cloudy, and with a nice off-white head that head very fickle bubbles.
S: Very fresh, almost with a hint of sourness, and low on the hop food chain. After sniffing, drinking, sniffing, drinking over time, I got a good bit of the barrel-aging... much more so than I got on the taste.
T: Right away, this tasted like something Brooklyn would make: Crisp in nature (even on their high octane stuff), bright and a bit yeasty on the end, with no trace of oak to my palate whatsoever. Very, very tasty. I'm thinking the mere restain of the hop component was the barrel's real contribution.
M: Bubbly and spritzy, with some nice lacing left on the glass. Not hop bitterness. As a matter of fact, "citrus" is not a word in the Local Species category.
O: Even though I still think $10.99 is still a bit higher than I think this beer ought to be, especially considering it's a local one, this was quite tasty and even better than I expected.

Just going to go ahead and say drinking this beer was an experience... Corked bottle poured into a snifter.
A: Murky copper; thin, white head.
S: Comments from those in the room: "Smells like a container that once held tuna salad..." "Nail polish..." "Fireworks..." definitely nothing familiar.
T: Belgian yeast spice; tart and slightly oaky; white grapes.
M: Medium-light feel; lower carbonation; kind of dry.
O: An interesting beer, for sure; a variety of tastes not normally encountered with beer! I'd like to find the story behind this one...
