Served on-tap at Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton, VA
A: Pours a clear medium golden copper to amber in color with light amounts of visible carbonation and some orange/apricot highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy off-whit head that slowly reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are visible.
S: Light to moderate aromas of caramel malts with slightly stronger aromas of floral, herbal, and pine/resin hops and just a touch of oak.
T: Similar to the smell, the beer has a light to moderate flavor of caramel malts upfront with just a touch of sweetness. Following the malt flavors there are moderate to strong flavors of floral, citrus/orange rind, and pine/resin hops which then have a light amount of oakiness towards the finish. Overall the hops only lend a light to moderate amount of bitterness which fades quickly.
M: Just shy of medium bodied with slightly more than moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with just a touch of dryness in the finish.
O: I enjoyed this beer and the oak definitely cut the bitterness of the hops, kind of mellowing them out without completely covering their flavors and smells. I thought the beer was relatively easy to drink as a result and enjoyable.
