Had a 2013 bottle on 6/15/17. Aged ok. Really classic aroma but taste has stuffed a bit. Still drinkable and a good example of the style. Maybe I will try one a little fresher and adjust my ratings then.

Spiced but moreso malty scent.

Decent head, but not too prominent.

Brownish-orange color, non-transparent.

Citric initial to definite fruit notes, with a flavor that lasts all the way down.

Definite apple flavors mid-mouth.

Alcohol is definitely there. Seems intoxicating on just the first few sips.

Lacing is subtle.

Burp vapors definitely bring the apple flavors.

Tart.

Think this wins out on mouthfeel.

This beer will get you drunk. ;)

Picked this up at John's Marketplace on Southwest Multnomah Boulevard
Portland, OR on our way back to Seattle. Their beer selection was fantastic, but too bad one of their check-out dudes was a complete dick.

Bomber poured into my large St. Feuillien goblet, Hopworks' Abbey is clear caramel brown with a small, light tan collar. There's a little skim in the middle refreshed from the spritz streaming up from the etching in bottom of the glass, but for a bottle conditioned Belgian, the head is weak.

Smell is very estery, lots of fruits, bananas, peaches, melons. There's some spiciness as well, not sure if that is the alcohol or the esters.

Taste is rather spicy, it tempers the fruit, where banana and nectarine is most prominent. A bit hot, sharp.

Mouthfeel is thin, dry and crisp, but a nice swishiness to the fineness of the bottle conditioning.

Drinkability is OK, this one sorely lacks elegance, and is a disappointing effort by the makers of my favorite IPA in town.

22oz into a chalice. Pours a clear amber w/ a 1-finger beige head, moderate carb.

Aroma is bready malt, candi sugar, dark fruit, some spice.

Taste is sweet sugar, Belgian yeast, bready malt, stone fruit, spices. Some warming alcohol, just the right level.

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, soft.

Overall a decent Belgian dark, a worthy effort from a brewery thousands of miles from Belgium.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark, cloudy red amber with a half finger light tan head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of plums, raisins, caramel malt and Belgian spicing. Flavor is bitter light and dark dried fruit, sweet malt, finishing with an astringent sugary bitterness. Appropriate flavors here for a dark Belgian, but the spicing and bitterness overwhelm the malt body, unbalancing this ale. Medium bodied with some creaminess.

A: Poured a burnt copper color with good carbonation leaving a nice dirty whoye cap, some lacking and a nice ring of bubbles

S: Sweet candy sugar with a blend of dark and light fruits and light booze sting on the nostrils

T: Immediate booze sting with some dark fruits, mainly raison and grapes with some light apples in the background with lingering candy sugar and some spice. Finish is lingering booze.

M: I felt it was a bit thin and relatively hot for 8.5ABV

O: Not to bad
