Dulcie and Aylwin's ongoing beer adventure. Slightly amazed that this is the first review on BA. Brunch at the Hedge House set us up nicely for a cultural contrast at the ultra-clean, ultra-modern eco-conscious Hopworks. Lots of groovy marketing here with logos and teeshirts and different glasses and so forth. In character with most Portland joints it is ridiculously easy to park at and is not crowded - although Sunday afternoon is probably not the peak time. We did note however the catering to the family as there appeared to be an entire area devoted to infants. Was there a children's beer menu? This seems to be a Portland theme: parents taking their infants to pubs so they can carry on their lives as if nothing has changed.
The area is rather industrial but the view from the balcony does gaze on the hills of Portland across the Willamette.
We did not try food, but sampled the IPA (quite strong at 6.9 %) and the Old Organic Ale (also quite strong). Unlike most establishments they do not do halves, which is a drag if you are doing a tour. Beer was good if not memorable.

This was stop #17 for my wife and I on a 21-day pub-crawl from Michigan to N. CA and OR. We stopped here early on a Saturday morning to try their beers as a kick-off to our Saturday version of our pub-crawl. The pub is situated in a storefront of a multi-story, modern building that looks like it has apartments above the brewery. The interior has a bicycling theme, and there is a long bar with some bar tables and stools that are separated from the larger dining area.
We ordered a flight of 10 beers out of the 15 that were available (there were also 3 Radlers or Ciders). All of the beers were brewed very well to their respective style, and all but two were well above average so that the 10 beers averaged out to a 3.8 out of a grading system with a 5.0 max score. (Any individual beer score above 4 is difficult to come by in our scoring, so this is a great score.) It was too early to eat, and only one person was at the time, but we didn’t even look at the menu, thus no food score is included in this review.
This was a great place to start our day, and definitely a place that we’d return to when we come back to Portland. This is a Must-Stop place.
