Growler filled from the wondrous CBX. Filled 7/29, drank right the heck up on 9/11. Still perfectly carbonated. Split with 2 other BA buds in cooling-off Columbia, SC.

A. Clear and rusty, fine 2 inch white head that falls to just cover the top. Spotty, low lace. Some active carbonation. A very pretty beer.

S. Mellow and toasty malts, some fruityness, slightly sour and acidic malts, lemon?, maybe some dates, very clean. Good malt presence here, restrained, yet inviting.

T. Smooth and tender malt profile blends through a subtle hop btterness and fruity, rich sweetness. This is good. Simple, decent, unsurprising, clean, and good. A friend said nutty and is right, and there's a little dank earthiness to keep things interesting.

M. Crisp, malty-nutful, medium carbonation, lightly bitter and malty sweet finish, pleasing, massively quaffable.

D. Oh yes. I had no trouble killing the growler in short order with friends. I want more.

ALTerior Motive is a great American take on an Alt, with a character that belies the sum of its parts. I like this one, and (like all COAST brews), it's super clean and tasty. Go get some Alt beer.

On draft at Coleman Public House
5oz sampler as part of a flight

A: amber, crystal clear, not much head or lacing
S: very malty, smokey, a touch fruity
T: follows the nose; malty and smokey, burnt grass, roasty.
M: full body, crisp and clean for a heavier beer
O: I'm not huge into German styles but this one is quite tasty and well worth the drink

64oz growler poured into a Pint Glass.

Poured a hazy dark copper-brown with a creamy ivory head that settles to a fluffy cap and leaves sheets of lacing. Sweet, malty aromas of caramel, roasted nuts, chocolate, and just a touch of citrus. Taste follows the nose closely, nice flavors of chocolate, nuts, caramel malt, and wheat with a fairly long-lasting, bitter finish. There's a touch of spiciness in here that adds a nice layer of complexity. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, with a touch-over-medium body and good, crisp carbonation. Very drinkable, this would be easily sessionable if the ABV was a touch lower. Overall another solidly delicious from COAST, glad to knock this one off the list finally!

32 oz growler poured into a pint glass at fridge-cellar temperature.

L – Hazy amber-brown color with a 1-finger foamy cream-colored head. Nice retention and some good lacing. I wish it was a little clearer.

S – Caramel, toffee, molasses, and toasted malts along with herbal hops and citrus esters/hops.

T – Sweet most of the way through with caramel, toffee, molasses, and some citrus esters, developing to nutty and toasted malt. Finishes up with a bitter spicy, herbal, and possibly citrus hop finish.

F – Medium-bodied with great carbonation, a sticky and creamy mouthfeel, and a pleasantly bitter and dry finish. Noble hop spicy and herbal hop bitterness lingers with a touch of the sweet citrus esters/hops.

O – This is my first altbier experience, and it was a tasty one. From what I’ve read, this fits the style terrifically. There’s a big and sweet malt presence that is adequately balanced by spicy and herbal noble hops. The mouthfeel is fantastic. Really the only thing I would improve is the clarity of the beer. Overall, this is a very tasty and drinkable beer. Another solid, solid beer from COAST.

A: This is what a brown ale should look like! The color is... oddly enough brown. Like hazy brown unlike most brown ales which seem to either be very dark bordering on black or too light, and have too much of golden tinge. This bad boy has a whispy head that is minimal when poured but does dissipate.

S: Mostly malty but has a bit of chocolate too it. Earthy hop note rather than floral. Maybe a little oak note as well.

T: Very unique and well balanced. A good amount of hop bitterness that is sharp like an IPA but not floral like an IPA. Very earthy with the oak note and a bit of dark chocolate flavor. Indeed, the chocolate flavor doesn't bring a sweetness which is very nice. Bitterness seems to overpower slightly.

M: Good body and carbonation isn't bad but a bit aggressive.

Overall this is a great beer. Big earthy flavors without being overpowering. I approve.

A: Poured to a pint glass from draught. Had a brownish color and a slightly hazy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A nice, malty, sweet, almost nutty aroma.

T: Tasted of malt, caramel, some hops and a nutty quality. Very well-balanced and easy to drink.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a pretty dry finish. Medium-bodied.

D: Another solidly drinkable beer from COAST.

Draught at Sesame's in No. Charleston.

Pours dark brown-copper, with a dense, foamy on-finger head on top that settles into a nice cap and leaves lots of delicate lacing. Very nice looking beer.

Nose is toasty, bit of caramel, nice noble hop presence.

Taste is stellar - toasty, bready, with a deep toasted caramel sweetness leading into a beautiful, firm noble hop bitterness on the finish that's just a bit sharp. Just a bit of breadcrust, and just a little fruity in there, but the stars are toasty caramel and noble hops. Everything just fits so perfectly together.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, moderate carbonation that lets the flavors shine perfectly, big flavorful finish that leads perfectly into the next sip. Hugely drinkable, delicious, fantastic beer.

Served from growler into a Mother Earth strange. Poured amber with a one finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, dark chocolate, and citrus. The flavor was of sweet malt, wheat, dark chocolate, citrus, and citrus hop. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. Based on the aroma alone on this one I really wasn't expecting too much if I am completely honest. Yes, the notes there were very nice, but I was hoping for some more complexity. I was definitely surprised when I took my first sip of this one though. The flavor profile was quite excellent and very well balanced. I could have drank a ton of this over a long session. The citrus really mixed quite well with the roastiness/bitterness of the dark chocolate. A solid offering from COAST and an absolute must try for anyone out there.

64oz growler purchased at Growlers, Hilton Head.

A - Pours a nice toasted brown with orange highlights. Clear, medium white head, decent lacing.
S - Faint malty breadiness, with a touch of noble hops. Good, and not overpowering.
T/M - Smooth, crisp and clean. The assertive hops (for an Alt) balance well with the malty backbone. This is easy drinking and delicious.
O - I almost passed this up based on style alone, and I'm glad I didn't. A pleasant surprise, and it goes to show that you can't judge a beer by it's style. Recommended.

Poured from a growler into a pint glass(Growler from Greens in Piney Grove)

A - Nice Brown-orange hue with a slightly off white head.

S - Clean smelling with hints of toasted malts, fruity flavors and bready aromas. Nice smelling brew especially for the style.

T - Complex beer with fruity, caramel, bready flavors with a little good bit of hoppy bitterness blended in. Maybe a hint of sourness in their. This is a really clean beer with lots of flavor.

M - Fair amount of carbonation with a medium body. This beer goes down real smooth.

D - Real easy drinker with plenty of flavor. This is another solid offering from an awesome brewery. While this isn't something I could see anyone going nuts over I definitely think it is a great beer that is worth picking up when available. I'd drink this one again for sure.

Have been meaning to try this for a while...

Poured from the CBX growler a nice dark copper, with a creamy light almond head that showed pretty good retention and left some nice lace. Aroma is of caramel malts with notes of floral hops - maybe a hint of toast in there, too. Taste is superb - malt breadiness up front, followed by a perfectly balanced, citrusy hop finish - seriously, the balance of this beer is awesome! There's also some very slight estery-ness going on and some ever-so-subtle touches of spice. Mouthfeel is pretty close to perfect - medium bodied, smooth and creamy - yet very crisp; carbonation is just right. Drinkability is up there - its such a clean, crisp, refreshing brew its damn near impossible not to have a few!
