Dubbed #2 because we couldn't think of a name. We backed off the malts some to let the hops shine through. Lighter in color and body than HopArt with a ton more hops.

Served from tap to growler to pint glass. This growler was filled a while ago on Sept 16, so hopefully this one hasnt lost everything.

Pours a slightly hazy yellow caramel color with a small white head. The retention is low but there is quite a bit of lacing on this one. The haze is probably due to the large amount of hops in this one.

Aroma is piney hops and not much else. I prefer DIPAs this way. A little bit of caramel but the hops are the star in this one.

Flavor was hop-centric as well. I feel this one may have diminished over the last 45 days so I am a bit bummed. However the hop bitterness is still there but the hop aroma and certainly the hop flavor arent quite as potent as I would have suspected. Perhaps my beer hasnt faded so take this review with a grain of salt. Large pine resin flavor with some grapefruit flavor with some slight tropical fruitiness. Really bitter and a long bitterness in the finish.

According to the description, this is a really hopped up Boy King with "less balance" and I believe this one is most definitely more bitter. I cant decide which I like better, probably Boy King, but this one was very nice. I would like to try this one again right from the tap without a month of age.

Finally some more coast love in Myrtle beach. Had this on tap at the mellow mushroom.
A nice golden color, bordering reddish. Beautiful head, two fingers plus, half bulging over the rim of the glass. Absolutely gorgeous, I haven't seen foam like this on a beer made outside of Belgium until now.
The smell and taste are both missing an integral ingredient, hops. While the beer tastes and smells fine, some light pine notes and a caramel sweetness, it just isn't hoppy enough for the style. Hard to rate due to this.
Nice mouthfeel, just not bitter enough. I wish I could have tried boy king instead of this. Decent, but not stellar.

Growler from... gosh, somewhere. CBX? Anyway, from notes:

A. Not-quite-clear rich orange / yellow, well nigh everlasting, lacy off white head. Looks good from here!

S. Sweet, almost... sugary? Simple malt bill, seems like. The rest is much more interesting: pineapple, citrus, little stabs of sharp booze throughout, some alcohol heat in the nose actually (weird), comes across as somewhat tropical and sunny, if too sweet and boozy... welll...

T. Sweetness is fine for this style, but the malt presence ain't there to back it up, so it just ends up being sweet with medium hop bitterness. The hop flavor is good. It's complementary enough, but not "complete", and certainly not very unique. Rather fruity and just a little medicinal in the finis.

M / D. Medium-full with decent carbonation. Finish is sticky hops and sweet (under-attenuated, or just big?) via da malt. Honestly not as easy to drink as the magical Boy King or most of the brews that come outta Coast... although I did down a growler with one other person...

I won't lie, this is maybe my least favorite Coast brew after the Honey Wheat. That's not to say it's BAD, just that I want them to brew Boy King again next time they do a DIPA. :-)

Dark caramel color with a usual frothy head.

A disappointment compared to their brilliant Boy King DIPA. I was expecting an overly hoppy west coast IPA, but it was very malty with a hop presence that just barely emerged. The usual citrusy notes. Definitely east coast, and almost barleywineish. A little tough to drink too much of.

Thanks to kkipple for sending a growler of this northward. It is a shame thought that the cap of the growler suffered one of the strangest damage hits I have ever seen. Almost looked like it suffered a bullet strike...I cannot believe the neck didn't shatter! This resulted in loss of carbonation and at least a 1/3 of the contents.

A-Orange hued copper with a few off-white bubbles and then nothing. Certainly not the fault of the beer.

S-Rich wet leaves, drying tobacco and spicy pine notes. Sweet caramel malts support in the background.

T-Bitter citrus rind and astringent tobacco/"herbal" qualities. Sweet caramel malt underlying providing an assemblence of balance. a

M-Medium bodied and while slick feeling, due to the lack of carbonation, this one still packs a nice punch of lingering bitterness.

D-Nice...and will need to be revisited. Not quite my hop profile and would like a bit more forward feel, but overall, I can take this one.

Thanks to Deuane for sharing this growler. The twist cap was damaged in route, causing a loss of approximately 1/3 of the growler and robbing it of carbonation.

A: The DIPA is amber, a bright orange hue that has retained its clarity. As noted above, the ale has lost most of its carbonation, so it sits still, motionless, in my glass.

S: The nose still packs a punch though! Leafy hops are bold and assertive, offering tobacco flavors alongside pine. Caramel malts also stand out.

T: The ale is still carbonated, at least from the taste perspective. The DIPA, as a result, has enough juice to clear off your palate on most sips. The ale is oily, full of sweetly bitter citrus, leafy hops. Caramel malts are sturdy enough to handle the hops, adding a full sweet breadiness that carries out into the finish.

M: The mouthfeel is stunted by the reduced carbonation levels. Despite that though, I found the leafy herbal aspect of the hops to be engaging.

D: A decent DIPA that showed up a little worse for wear. The excessive hopping, though, is always a nice touch.

Very nice double IPA from this great little brewery in Charleston. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a moderate head. Smells sweet with tropical fruit drom the hops and some sweet malt as well as a nice herbal backdrop. Tastes even nicer with a very nice almost asprin-like bitterness that cuts through the pineapple and citrus flavors and lingers into the finish. A fresh, forward herbalness, almost dill like is noticeable at first, but as the beer breathes this takes a back seat to the bitter notes. Quite nice. Full bodied and creamy in the mouth, this is a pleasure to drink and goes down much more easily than the abv would suggest.

GATM Growler into Imperial pint glass on 11/5/09.

A - Hazy caramel orange-colored body with a healthy two fingers of milky white frothy head that settled to a quarter inch of creamy retention and deposited a thick spattering of lace around the glass.

S - Piney hops with a solid backing of sweet caramel malt and a fairly significant waft of alcohol. Some soapy notes and perfumy hops are also apparent.

T - Pine cones and alcohol but hops are a bit more subdued in the flavor than the aroma. Sappy and syrupy with plenty of sugary sweetness.

M - Medium bodied and syrupy with a hint of hop oils and very soft, virtually non-existent carbonation. Subtle alcohol heat and moderate lingering bitterness on the palate with plenty of residual sweetness.

D - Not a bad DIPA overall, although it seems a bit under carbonated and pretty heavy-handed with the malt and alcohol. I quite enjoyed the piney hop character of this beer, though. I'd imagine this would be pretty killer directly from the tap.

Thanks to d0b for coming up with this growler - it's a couple weeks old but doesn't seem to be off or oxidized. Served in a Sam Adams pint glass.

A - A couple fingers of eggshell foam that dissipates to a solid cap and leaves sheets of lacing. Nice hazed fire color that's a little darker and redder at the top of the glass.

S - There's some dank, cheesy, Columbus hops, mixed with some peach and orange fruitiness. It's definitely more malt-forward than west coast DIPAs, but I'm not sure how much is due to age. Nice doughy and caramel malt backbone. Pretty standard, but pretty decent nonetheless.

T - Taste has a definite caramel orange/tangerine vibe to it, with some pine and grapefruit character in the periphery. Nice moderate bitterness that dissipates fairly quickly. Again, pretty standard DIPA vibe, but still pretty enjoyable.

M - Medium body, with a bit of prickly carbonation, and some nice residual oily resins. Again, nothing spectacular, but more than adequate.

D - This is super drinkable and easy to chug. The bitterness fades pretty quickly, which keeps me reaching for my glass.

This would be an excellent regular DIPA option - nothing crazy, but eminently drinkable.

Big thanks to RyanC84 for this growler, shared with the usual suspects at the Brick Store.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a small creamy white head that recedes slowly and leaves a soapy film along the top and some spotty lacing.

The aroma is big and fruity with lots of sweet tropical citrus, including grapefruits, pineapples and oranges. There is also a solid caramel malt aroma.

The taste is just as good but a little bit different as the hops start off with a more astringent bitterness than I was expecting. The sweetness is provided by the caramel malts with a sugary character as well.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and sticky with hops and caramel malts. The carbonation is solid, especially considering it's from a growler.

I've been impressed with most Coast beers and this one is no exception. It's a hop-forward, but not over-the-top, DIPA that remains extremely drinkable. Good stuff.

I won a growler of this brew in a LIF hosted by Gyle41386, Thanks Kyle!

Served in a tulip glass the brew is a hazy burnt orange/amber color with a white head that thinned to a ring but still left spots of lacing.
The aroma is a piney blast of hop juice.
The taste is also a pliney blast of hop juice upfront which gets tamed down with a good malty backbone.
Medium bodied with mild carbonation and a slick feel.
Very drinkable, oh yes it is!

Big thanks to mikesgroove for this in growling at the moon.

A: Nice medium copper color. Quite a bit of visible carbonation which is always nice to see in a growler pour. Poured with a half finger of white head. The lacing is not the kind where you can see each sip you have taken but rather looks like blood splatter. Almost totally random.

S: One of the best smelling DIPAs I have ever had and I have had them all. Just a really nice pungent blast of citrus. Little bit of pine resin right behind it. Mix between grapefruit and orange. Nothing short of wonderful.

T: For such a big hop bomb it is very well balanced. After the initial hit and beating from the hops on your tongue it balances out nicely. The malt comes in very sharp and in a way clears some of the bitterness.

M: Has that nice balance of thickness yet drinkable that can be dangerous in a DIPA. Spot on for the style. The carbonation is great especially from a growler.

D: This beer is probably too drinkable. Reminds me of Captain Lawrence DIPA in that regard. You have a pint and it is gone in 10 min no problem. Pour yourself a second and then have to check yourself. This is a great east coast IPA. Hell it is a great IPA. Seek this one out. Thanks again to mikesgroove for sending this my way.

Filled 9/17 from CBX, consumed on 9/18. Poured into a wide-mouthed Terps glass because I was in Maryland. Flaming, hazy bright orange in the glass. Very fluffy near-white head with some good active bubbling.

Luscious, piney citrus, intoxicating aroma. Wonderful first sip, such a blast of fresh hop flavor. A little piney, a little chewy a little tangerine, a little pink grapefruit. Sweet tangerine on bottom of the wave, nicely bitter pine on top. Super fragrant and fresh mouthfeel, with a dash of grapefruit zest. What stuck out to me was the navel orange pulp flavor. Many IPA/DIPA have the grapefruit, but not to many have that tart/sweet/tangy fresh pulp. Finishes a tad resiny with a long lasting hop flavor.

64 ounces- no problem! I really enjoyed this DIPA, and would love 64 more.

Another BIG IPA from COAST. I loved the Boy King and seeing another variety come out can only be a good thing!

Deep amber pour here, dark with a light cloudiness that quickly cleared leaving. Nice head left coating lace down the sides of the glass. Aroma was sweet, piney hops, orange notes mixed in with a healthy malt sweetness. Not a huge hop bomb, well balanced. Very full feel for the style, near perfectly done as I take the first sip. Mellow flavors of orange and pine wash over the tongue, but aren't dominating, accented wonderfully by buttery notes it gives it a well rounded profile and hides the alcohol perfectly making this super drinkable. Each sip seems a bit sweeter then the one before it and you really just find yourself drawn in to it. Nice dry finish has buttery and sweet citrus notes on the back of the tongue waiting for your next sip.

Overall very solid. Not the tongue thrashing west coast style, this has much more finesse. Well balanced and super drinkable, I could see myself going up against this one again any day!

New release by COAST! This one is not based off the Boy King. It is a new beer all together.
A: Pale orange, decent head, not too hazy.
S: Very faint hop aroma. You get a light hint of citrus.
T: Very balanced. Light citrus hops. Maybe a touch of cascade.
M: Not too dry. Alcohol is well hidden. Slightly more bitter than Boy King, but still totally balanced.
D: Excellent, since all flavors are even

I was really expecting this to be super hoppy. It was supposed to be more of a West Coast IPA, but it is still very much an East Coast IPA. It doesn't have too much malty sweetness, but the hop flavor/aroma are still very subtle. It is a great beer, and almost sessionable despite the level of alcohol. It just isn't a hop bomb.
