This one had been hit by some oxidation by the time I got to it. Rusty under the cap and some wine tones coming through. Perhaps unfair to rate. It was still quite good but I could tell it wasn't what it had been. Dominated by a cocoa powder flavor in the middle, powdery soft finish, some sherry fruit notes from oxidation.

22oz bottle into a snifter
Bottled on: 06/29/11
A: Pours an absolutely opaque jet black with just under 1 fingers width of dark mocha colored head. Head dissipates down fairly quickly. Effectively zero lacing but some alcohol legs.
S: Big roasted malt, along with equally big leather. Next I get anise and bakers chocolate. Barrel notes arent huge but are certainly present, with oaky bourbon. As it warms more chocolatey fudge aromas come out. Awesome.
T: Doesnt really follow the nose. Starts off with herbaceous notes, and grainy roasted malt. There is a prominent, unique dark fruit-like flavor, that I cant place. Not nearly the chocolate that was present on the nose, but some bakers chocolate on the finish. Barrel notes are fairly subtle, with oak being the most prominent. Some toasted coconut and a bit of booze comes out as it warms. Good complexity.
M/D: Smooth, moderate carbonation, full bodied, a bit chewy, ABV well masked, drinkability is good.
O: Ive now had all the barrel aged vintages except 2009. 2012 remains my favorite. That being said, this is a great beer. Glad I was able to try this vintage!

Thanks Mikesgroove!
Appearance. Pours thick and black with a thin espresso foam head.
Smell. Sweet bourbon and dark chocolate, vanilla and molasses, and some oak barrel.
Taste. Dark dark chocolate and a ton of it, some dark roasted malts, vanilla and smooth light bourbon, and a touch of molasses and coffee. Some roasty cocoa powder bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel. Full body but not too thick and viscous, low smooooth carbonation. Really nice.
Overall. I was wondering if I left this in the cellar too long but I regret nothing. So smooth and well integrated. Fantastic stuff.

Big thanks to JLindros to sharing this bottle with me. Poured into a tulip. Reviewed from notes.
A - Poured an oily black hue with a nice thin half a finger half that faded to leave a light soft halo and cloud.
S - Aromas of nice rich dark chocolate along with light smoke and vanilla. Very enticing.
T - Wow, this is delicious. Tasty, light smokey with lots of chocolate and roasty malts. There is a light bitter coffee finish too.
M - Mouthfeel seemed slightly thin for the ABV, however, it was hidden nicely.
O - Overall this was a delicious stout and I'm glad I got to try it. Definitely delicious after a year of sitting.

Bomber into a 25cl Duvel tulip. Shared at a tasting alongside regular Blackbeerd. Huge thanks to the ridiculously generous kingkong for sending this one my way.
A: Deep black body under a half inch of light brown head. Pretty decent retention, spotty lace. Good.
S: Lovely but underpowered aroma of whiskey, oak, vanilla, and chocolate. A bit of spice and heat. Really nice, but nothing terribly memorable.
T: Sweet oaky vanilla up front, followed by some whisky, some chocolate, and some bitter, charred roastiness on the finish. Very tasty, but, again, it falls short of being distinctive.
M: Creamy, nicely carbonated medium-full body. Fuller than the non-BA version, which was a very pleasant surprise. Excellent.
O: This was a delicious beer, but most BA stouts are. I'd gladly drink it every day if I could, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Definitely worth a shot, though.
Cheers!
