Thanks to dogdoc for sending this one down! Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a TBBC pint glass.

A: Hazy orange-gold, with a big head of off-white craggy foam. Low visible carbonation.

S: Mild hops (citrus rind and pine) and a touch of bready malt. Not a lot going on in the aroma department here.

T: Some non-descript hop bitterness, a fair amount of lightly toasted malt presence, and then some grapefruit citrus hop bitterness into the hang.

M: A bit heavier body than I expected for a "session" IPA. Low alcohol presence and a good amount of carbonation sensation.

O: It's not a bad beer, but I feel like it misses the mark in several places. Low hop aroma, low hop flavors identifiable, and just seems overly bitter without adding more flavor. More dry-hopping might help this out a little bit. It may have paled a little in comparison to the MBC MO that I drank immediately before, but it is still the weakest offering from COAST that I've had yet.

My buddy Chris brought this bottle back from Spring break when he was visiting home. Thanks for sharing Chris! Bottled on 3/1/13, so a little over one month old. Poured from a 22 oz. bomber into a tulip glass.

A - Pours a dirty peach or iced tea color, with a two-and-a-half finger off-white pillowy head. No visible carbonation & visibly murky. Head fades relatively quickly. Pretty decent lacing.

S - Sweet fruitiness, like lemonade or some lemon sweet tea. Pretty mild here.

T - Very well-balanced hop flavor, with no sharp edges. Pine or grassy hops gives a bit of a punch at the beginning. Some complex breadiness gives the beer a long & satisfying finish.

M - Nice carbonation level and a thinner than average mouthfeel. Very refreshing & drinkable.

O - At only 4.7% and incredibly drinkable, this beer lives up to the name "Session IPA." Not fatiguing by any means, but quenches the thirst. Very nice for a lunch beer, I bet.

22 oz bottle poured into a pint glass at cellar temperature.

L – Pale amber color with a 2-finger frothy, cream-colored head. Really nice retention and some nice patchy lacing. Hazy with not many appreciable bubbles.

S – Big, big hop aroma with grapefruit and orange notes. For something that’s a session IPA, the hop aroma is very strong.

T – It starts off slightly sweet with bready malt, then shifts to a bitter taste with mostly grapefruit and orange flavors. As the taste progresses, some earthy and herbal hops come through at the finish. For as strong as the citrus hop aroma was, the taste was very balanced with bready malt and earthy hops sharing the stage with citrus hops.

F – Medium-bodied with good carbonation, a creamy and mouth-coating feel, and a bitter and slightly dry finish. Bitter grapefruit and earthy hop flavors linger.

O – This is a nice IPA. It’s tasty and obviously extremely drinkable with the lower ABV. One thing that unfortunately hurts this beer taste-wise is that the aroma was so fantastic. After the wonderful citrus blast, I was expecting a taste that was equally citrus hop-forward. Unfortunately, I didn’t get my wish, but, don’t get me wrong, this beer is still very tasty.

Served from bottle into a COAST Willi (proper!). Poured a hazy yellow-orange with a one finger off-white head that subsided to a half finger slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, citrus, citrus hop, fruit, fruit hop, tropical fruit hop, and orange zest. The flavor was of sweet malt, fruit, fruit hop, earth, earth hop, citrus, and spicy hop. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a fairly good brew. For this to be such a light and easy to drink IPA, the aroma really brought its A-game. There was a ton of balanced notes going on in both the nose and flavor here. This made it quite enjoyable. Glad I got the chance to try this one as I missed it at Brewvival this year.

COAST Session IPA
poured from a growler into a pint glass

A new beer from COAST, low ABV, session IPA. Hopefully its as good as all COAST's other hoppy beers!

A: Pours a very hazy apricot orange with 2 fingers of sea foam white colored head which dissipates down at a moderate rate and leaves a couple small streaks of lacing.

S: Wow what an aroma. My god. Tons of citrusy hop goodness, coupled with a dank resinous quality. Mild tropical fruit notes. Hints of sweet malt. Smells like a rye base to be honest, although Im not sure if it is or not. Aromas are much bigger than I anticipated from a low ABV beer. Kind of smells like a lighter Boy King with a rye twist (if you know my love, aka obsession, with Boy King youd know how big of a compliment that is).

T: Taste doesnt really follow the nose, in that the hops arent nearly as prevalent. Rye characters are the most prominent. There are some bitter hop notes on the finish, pine and juniper. The flavors are by no means mild, again its stronger than I anticipated for a beer dubbed a "session IPA", which gives it bonus points.

M/D: Carbonation on the heavier side, a touch too much for my liking. Medium bodied. Not terrible smooth due to the high carbonation. Great drinkability, as can be anticipated by the name.

O: Overall, another solid offering from COAST. This isn't my favorite COAST beer, but I do appreciate them brewing a low ABV, sessionable beer thats still big in flavor and aroma. Ill definitely drink this again in the future. Can't wait for the day they start producing 6 packs!
