Thanks to dogdoc for sending this one! Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a Westbrook pint glass.
A: Hazy rich bronze in color, with some flocculent hop particles in suspension. One finger's worth of off-white head and just a little bit of visible carbonation. Honestly, not terribly pretty.
S: Sweet toasty malts, citrus (lemon) and resinous pine hops - not a big nose here.
T: Hoppier than the nose would suggest. Starts with a solid toasty malt background, with good pine resin, citrus rind, and grapefruit hop flavors over the top of it. This is seriously bitter for a red, and the bitterness lasts into the hang. There's a thin, almost tinny, flavor as it warms that I can't quite place.
M: Decent carbonation sensation, moderate alcohol. The body is a bit on the light side.
M: This is a decent beer. The tinny flavor wasn't particularly pleasant, but it was fairly subdued and I couldn't quite figure out where it was coming from. I do think this could use a bigger malt presence, and more late addition hops or dry-hopping could add more hop flavor and aromas to offset the amount of hop bitterness. Still, decent beer.

A - Pours an amber with an orange tint, nice finger of caramel head. Very good lacing as well as retention.
S - Grassy hops, lifts of sweet caramel and lots of lemon.
T - slightly dry grassy bitterness and mild spice/pepper up front followed by a sweet but refreshing caramel sweetness. aftertaste repeats the initial taste.
M - lightish bodied, very refreshing, well carbonated.
O - somewhat mild, lots of citrus lemon and grassy flavors. A very solid well balanced brew

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass. Bottled March 15, 2013.
A bit of a slightly murky copper amber body, hints of dark chestnut brown with some minor floaties in the body. Head is a nice billowing three fingers tall with lots of swiss cheese bubbles and good staying power, off tan in color. Speckled lacing as well.
Nose is quite surprising, a very hop dank forward earthy character, but not IPA territory. Some faint clove and dry nutmeg like spices and caramel sensing malts. Quite dry but noticeable and just a touch of sweetness maybe. Very solid. Never smelled a dank amber before.
Palate reaches for something different. First impression is biscuity, nearly cracker dry, then it goes to a real nice hop dryness in the mid palate. Mild sweetness but a ripping grain quality comes on the aftertaste. Earth and pine mix nicely with a mild sweet caramel but more of a dominant husky and extremely aromatic grain. Mouthfeel has just enough body to carry the flavors with medium carbonation.
This is a real interesting amber, and unlike anything I've had, and I find it very drinkable on top of it.

22 oz bottle poured into a snifter at fridge-cellar temperature.
L – Deep amber color with a 2-finger bubbly, rocky, cream-colored head. Pretty nice retention and great rings of lacing. Mostly clear – maybe the slightest bit of haze – with a moderate amount of bubbles.
S – Mostly bittersweet hops with orange (not quite on the grapefruit end of the spectrum), peach, and a touch of pineapple. There’s some caramel malt here, too, but not as much as I was expecting from an amber ale.
T – Here’s where all that caramel went. It starts off sweet with a strong bready and caramel malt presence and gradually shifts toward orange, peach, and pine hop bitterness. Once the bitterness fades, caramel and toffee come back into view.
F – Medium-bodied with good carbonation, a sticky, slightly chewy, and mouth-coating feel, and a wet, bittersweet finish. Caramel sweetness and citrus hop bitterness both linger for a bit.
O – This is a nice amber ale. The sweeter malt notes aren’t quite as prominent in the nose as I would expect but they’re certainly there in the taste. At 5.5% ABV, it is very drinkable and efficient, as it packs quite a punch taste-wise. Another solid beer from COAST.

Pours a hazy copper-red with a creamy white head that settles to a thin head, leaving nice lacing clinging to the glass. Crisp hop aromas of tangerine, grapefruit, and peach with a moderately sweet amber malt profile. Fresh and typical of a COAST brew. Similar taste to the nose, superbly fresh, with more peach, tangerine, and grapefruit. Very drinkable, with a medium body and ample carbonation. Another damn fine COAST brew

growler into a perfect pint glass
COAST's new "Red Pale Ale"
A: Pours a slightly hazy amber with faint reddish hues. One fingers width of off white colored head quickly dissipates down to a thin film. Leaves a few small patches of lacing.
S: Spice and minty hops, burnt grass and caramel malts. Juniper and piney notes. Really great balance of hops and malt.
T: Piney hops, some roasted notes, an herbaceous burnt grass flavor, caramel malts.
M/D: Lighter side of medium bodied, carbonation on the higher side, good drinkability.
O: Another solid beer from COAST. Tasty, with a great aroma. A flavorful sessionable beer. Id gladly drink this again. Recommend.
