Notes/Commercial Description:
Warm copper amber in color, SanTan brewers have re-defined this classic English Ale. An intense bitterness derived from the distinct citrus/pine flavor of Pacific Northwest Hops. A dry, crisp malt character & aggressive alcohol dominate our I.P.A. and make this bitter beer a hop-head’s passion!

I have tried all their canned beers from san tan and although they have some good draft beers at the brewery, the canned beer across the board is no good especially when you factor in 9.99 a 6 pack.

Appearence: This has a copper color to it unlike most west coast styled ipa's which leads me to think right away this will be a malt bomb.

Smell: The only real smell I am getting is carmel malt with a slight hint of pine hops in the background. This is coming from a brewer that used to work at Four Peaks-- I don't get it.

Taste: Once again without a doubt all malt with just a little bit of hops coming into play here. Some bitterness but mostly just malt. I am not sure what the recipe of this beer is but in the end they need to lighten up the malts and throw some Amarillo or Citra hops at this beer to take it to a whole new level.

Mouthfeel: Has the normal amount of carbonation to it but it falls flat pretty quick.

Overall: I had high hopes for this beer but in the end was really let down. I have been to the brewery a few times and thought the draft beers were good. The canned beers are over priced, average beers. My favorite local IPA is Four Peaks Hop Knot which is night and day better than this. Two completely different beers. I think Santan Brewing needs to redo there recipe in a big way.

12oz can at 41 F, flown in from Arizona last weekend, poured into a pilsner glass today. Crafted on 02/16/14, according to the stamp on the bottom. Batch #020009283.

Pours clear amber with a medium cream colored head that fades very slowly. Small amount of carbonation. Smell is nice, piney, citrusy, refreshing.

Taste has a nice sharp bitterness, especially in the aftertaste. The hop profile actually reminds me a bit of Hopslam, but Hopslam has a lot of honey sweetness. Man does it have a long lasting bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly creamy, actually very nice. Overall, I'm fairly impressed. I remember being nonplussed by their beer when we visited their brewery a few years ago.

During a trip to northern Arizona i was hoping to find an IPA that smelled of the juniper berries i encountered during hikes in the AZ wilderness. This is it! Very piney & grapefruity. The 7.1 is quite hidden...for now. Some floral notes...very hoppy.

Nice copper bronze color and citrus smell. Looks and smell can deceive. Big hop profile west coast style. Decent malt and grapefruit rind. Much More pronounced resin and pine. 7abv good balance session beer with a kick. Funny a bit of a hop bomb but not a palate wrecker.
