Notes/Commercial Description:
Warm copper amber in color, SanTan brewers have re-defined this classic English Ale. An intense bitterness derived from the distinct citrus/pine flavor of Pacific Northwest Hops. A dry, crisp malt character & aggressive alcohol dominate our I.P.A. and make this bitter beer a hop-head’s passion!

Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Lagunitas mason jar
From: Whole Foods in Tempe, Ariz.
Price: $2.59
Purchased: May 17, 2014
Consumed: May 21, 2014
Misc.: Crafted on Feb. 26, 2014

Poured a dark orangeish, amber, hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki-white pillowy head. Average-to-lively average foamy lacing along the sides of the glass. Very good retention on the top.

Smelled citrus hops, nectarine, caramel malts, earthy rye malts, iced tea, light grapefruit, orange rind, bitter tropical hops and mango.

Tasted not quite as good as I hoped. Got citrus hops, nectarine, orange rind, mango and other tropical hops up front, immediately followed by bitter earthy malts, boozy, astringent alcohol and rye hops. Bitter aftertaste. Grapefruit notes come in late, but not a good overall taste.

Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Astringent, bitter finish.

This IPA was just OK. I wavered on pretty much all five categories, so this could have gone a bunch of different ways.

Crafted on 4/16/14. Batch # 084 019747.

Pours a clear dark orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, earth, citrus zest, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with earth, herbal hop, and slight metallic flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but the metallic taste is not that pleasant.

I can do this! 12 ounces, from a can, canned just under 4 months ago. On to the beer:

This is a reddish-orange colored IPA, topped with a thick two fingers head. The retention is excellent on top, the lacing is good. The aroma has some hops. More specifically, the hops have a metallic character. Bitter tea. Raw. Squeeze those hops!

The beer opens up in the mouth. Flavors of orange, sweet toffee, cantaloupe, resin, and some leftover bitterness give me a good impression, leaving to the mind how a fresh glass at the source would be. Its smooth texture and nearly full body help are pleasing.

Solid as a rock IPA.

12oz can at 41 F, flown in from Arizona last weekend, poured into a pilsner glass today. Crafted on 02/16/14, according to the stamp on the bottom. Batch #020009283.

Pours clear amber with a medium cream colored head that fades very slowly. Small amount of carbonation. Smell is nice, piney, citrusy, refreshing.

Taste has a nice sharp bitterness, especially in the aftertaste. The hop profile actually reminds me a bit of Hopslam, but Hopslam has a lot of honey sweetness. Man does it have a long lasting bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly creamy, actually very nice. Overall, I'm fairly impressed. I remember being nonplussed by their beer when we visited their brewery a few years ago.
