Hop aroma bursts from the can and spills into your glass. An orange-amber color greets the eye. A one -finger head disapates fairly quickly. This is a great smelling beer for a pale ale ..grass, pine, and tropical fruit. The brewer says this is dry-hopped with simcoe and I believe it. Wonderful balance and very drinkable, I really like this beer.

Crafted on 4/2/14. Batch # 060 006786.

Pours a hazy dark orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, earth, citrus zest, and slight herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest and slight herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a solid balance between citrus and herbal hop characteristics.

12oz Can

A big thank you goes out to my dad for surprising me with some beer from a recent vacation. The antique white head forms easily on a standard pour growing to a finger in height. There settling but it leaves a solid cap and respectable ring atop the hazy, apricot orange body. Thin lace sticks like super glue to the glass.

While the nose doesn't quite pop it's not far from doing so, just a little muted. Caramel base is well placed for the citric hop profile to be the showcase. Orange and grapefruit play the major roles. Both are pithy and sweet. A little dankness floats around the back and I hate to say it but a little tea leaf as well, though minor.

Caramel washes over the tongue upfront before pithy citrus hits and takes over. Grapefruit is more abundant than orange but both are pithy then sweeten up toward the finish in the form of candied citrus peel. A hint of that tea leaf bitterness returns but is pretty well buried. The overall citrus characteristic is juicy and enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is a little heftier than your average pale ale and it works well because of active carbonation and a welcomed frothiness. There's a moderate bitterness I actually wasn't fully expecting that tends to linger after each drink. Nicely done.

Devil's Ale is a solid all around pale ale and probably the best beer I've ever had that's been brewed in Arizona. The maltiness is just enough to lay a base while the hop profile is both juicy and bitter. Highly drinkable. I have a feeling this one could be even better if a touch fresher. I'd pick this up often if in Arizona.
