A swirl of the last splash of beer and in goes the yeast; cloudy pale amber with two fingers of head that stay. Banana taffy and faint powdered clove rest on a bready, malty nose. Smooth, with a slickness on the medium body--the palate was hoping for more crispness. Maltiness flexes right away with a straight bready flavor, and nuttiness from the yeast compliments this. Fruitiness and spice easily balance. Toward the finish, the brew goes a little lemony and earthy. Throw this one into a blind tasting and you'd never know it was American brewed. A gem from the Southwest.

Poured a a cloudy orange/yellow with a one finger, fluffy white head, dissipating to a ring of white foam. Looks very nice, like a hefeweizen should. Scents of clove, banana, slight citrus and German yeast. Very true to style, a nice surprise for an American-brewed hefeweizen. Flavor is mild, with notes of bready wheat, some clove, slight banana and some herbal hops and slight orange peel. Very true to some of the good German examples I've sampled, again a very pleasant surprise. Mouthfeel is light bodied with moderate carbonation. Yet again, true to style. An excellent hefeweizen, which compares well with actual German brewed versions of the style. A nice surprise from Arizona.

Thick hazy burnt yellow golden colored beer doesn't wait long for a medium to small head to die into a thin lacing above it.

Light banana and cloves are the most dominate in the aroma on this hefeweizen.

Light and pleasant cloves and banana taste that is a little on the lighter side but for some reason it seems to be just about right. Some times hefeweizen's and wheat beers seem to have an overkill of banana, cloves, and spices whereas this beer is made to be drank on a hot summers day and in slightly more quantity than most of its contemporaries.

A light to maybe a light medium bodied beer that has a very light clovish dry aftertaste.

I'm not the biggest fan of hefeweizen beers that have a ton of rich banana or cloves taste and I think that that is why this beer appeals to me more, it has those tastes but not to the point of being a turn off for me.

12oz can. Thanks be to my friend Derek, who snagged this at a grocery store in Phoenix while on snow-bird duty this past month. Is the label actually supposed to depict a lemon/orange yin and yang sort of thing?

This beer pours a hazy medium tarnished golden yellow colour, with one flabby finger of loosely foamy, fleetingly foamy eggshell white head, which leaves very little in the way of lace around the glass as it quickly ebbs away.

It smells of sweet, somewhat grainy wheat malt, banana chips and the cloves that love them, some further orange rind fruitiness, mild Hubba Bubba notes, and herbal, weedy hops. Like the offspring of the best German and German American brewers, so far. The taste is more sweet, unassuming wheat malt, middling banana and clove esters, subtle, but at the same time quite noticeable orange and lemon (of course) fruit fleshiness, and quite understated earthy, leafy hops.

The carbonation is generally adequate for the style, i.e. present but not obsequious, the body a sturdy medium weight, and mostly smooth, a slight tackiness taking a chink out of that particular armor. It finishes off-dry, the graininess of the wheat still rather prominent in its inherent sweetness, and the other implied essences holding fast in their allegiance.

Another well-wrought hefe from the depths of the American south - something tells me that those German expats just have a knack for this sort of thing, in that desert heat. My previous experience with this kind of affair was in Texas, so not exactly the same thing, but enough for this far-flung northerner to start making apophenic connections, maybe.

A: cloudy orange.. one finger head..

S: sweet banana.. almost like a banana candy.. wheat. Clove/spices to round out the nose. Faint citrus..

T: again sweet banana upfront.. takes up a lot of the flavor.. the clove flavors come in next.. then u get more wheat.. maybe just a hint of citrus on the back end.. semi dry finish..

Mf:light-medium body with good carbonation.

O: a decent hefe.. light, crisp, & refreshing..

Picked up a couple 6-packs at AJ's. A tasty beer, but clearly a more American take on the style. There's more clove and orange than Widmer's Hefe, but considerably less than Franziskaner. The clove is heavy and followed by light, crisp wheat. Then a juicy orange undertone rolls through. I can certainly say this is the best canned hefe I've had. Overall, a respectible wheat beer. Worth a try.

Pours a hazy orange-yellow with a two finger head. Lemon peel, bit of banana and clove on the nose, along with a nice yeasty breadiness. Flavor follows suit with a refreshing tartness. Overall a nice American Hefeweizen with a bent towards the German style. So far, my favorite offering from this brewery.

(12oz can). Pours cloudy yellow with quickly disappearing white head. Aroma has yeast, wheat, banana and clove present. Taste has a sweet malt with a bit of hop bitterness. Thin bodied with oily texture. Finish is smooth. This is a very easy to drink beer and I’ll be looking to pick up some more as the temps climb here in Arizona.

Poured from a 12oz. can.

Appearance: A very generous head with lots of lacing draped all over. Color is a light orange-banana.

Smell: Wheat with some cloves, banana and lemon. Very zesty.

Taste: Sweet orange with light cloves and a lemon zest. The finish is breezy and citrusy.

Mouthfeel: Real good carbonation, crisp body and quite refreshing.

Overall: A nice hefeweizen from a place i wouldn't figure would have some

Had a cpl pints on the patio, served in a frosted glass. I've had this many times and it is far better on tap than from the can IMO.

A - Pretty representative of all craft Hefes, cloudy gold-tinged orange body with a good amount of stiff froth. Decent lacing.

S- Mildly sweet and grassy, alot of clove and light on banana esters. Slight citrus tang also. Very good.

T - Dialed back a bit from its German counterparts, (Franziskaner, Paulaner, and Erdinger are all top-flight Hefes to me) but it makes for a really versatile and pleasant beer. All of the flavors on the nose are there, none very prominent but they mingle well and keep it interesting enough to have a few. The scaled-back approach doesnt weigh too heavily on the palate either. Well done.

M - Smooth and creamy, slightly sweet and oily finish.

O - I like having this one around for hot summer weather, very good local offering.

A: Milky golden. Bright on the inch around the pint glass. Rapidly disappearing and "snapping" white head. No lacing. Entirely uninspiring but inoffensive.

N: Fluoride and some over ripe banana bread in the back.

T: The front of the palate is banana aided by the light carb. Mid palate is bready and thick, like processed desert bread. The aftertaste is a very disagreeable fluoride overload.

M: Heavy with a prickly, light carb. The back of the swallow slides down the throat like slime.

A very poor execution of a very easy style to present. The overall presentation leaves the feeling of faint rot and chemicals.

Appearance: Hazy medium golden in color,with a moderate, quite dense off-white head, and scattered, thick and patchy lacing.

Aroma: Prominent spicy wheat, earthy yeast, ripe bananas, and lemon.

Taste: Opens with spicy wheat, yeast, caramel, ripe bananas, and a modest amount of cloves. As the taste progresses, there is a significant orange rind presence. Later, some earthy hop flavors manifest themselves, bringing the taste to a balanced close.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, pleasant, fairly full, with a bit of zesty carbonation.

Drinkability/notes:A pleasant and well-crafted example.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a Samuel Adams Boston Lager Sensory glass.

VERY impressed. Maybe I'm an elitist, but I tend toward skepticism on interpretations of this style from outside Bavaria. I'm ambivalent on the aesthetics, as it poured a gorgeous billowing head that disappeared far too fast, leaving frail remnants and little lacing. Smell? Wonderful. Taste? Lovely. Both smell and taste are very fruity and citrusy, and pretty much embody all the best characteristics of high brow hefeweizens you can import. . . yet this is out of AZ, REPRESENT!

My thanks (and that of The CANQuest (TM)) to bennetj17 for some more CANs to keep the madness moving right along.

From the CAN: "This product does not contain orange or lemon flavoring"; "Craft Beer For Beer Drinking". Plus, it is made in ChANdler, AZ and if Ballast Point ever begins to CAN, maybe Cousin Colby and I CAN meet at their CANvention.

The Crack & Glug produced only a finger of soapy, off-white head that dissipated like it had somewhere else to be. I was left with a cloudy orangish-amber beer with a modicum of CO2 bubbles in evidence. Nose was heavy on banana, leading me to wonder why my homeboys didn't mention that fruit in their disclaimer. Did they really add banana flavoring? I jest. Seriously, though, very heavy on the banana esters and light on the citrus and almost no evidence of clove. No clove?!? I weep. Mouthfeel was on the watery side (what is it with the wheat beers today?) with a big up-front banana flavor underlain with some citrus. Finish was still fit for a barrel of monkeys until the etreme finish when I caught a hint of clove spiciness. I seem destined not to be a big hefeweizen drinker.

Hazy amber color with a nice foam when poured enthusiastically in the Duvel tulip. This has a pretty good sudsy mouthfeel as well. More substantial mouthfeel than a lot of the wheat beers. While not outstanding, there is a pleasant spicy aroma.

Quite sweet as well as spicy. Malty and warm. Plenty of the banana and cloves, with something like a citrus, orange peel flavor. More than a hint of bitterness in the finish. Thoroughly pleasant Hefeweizen and a nice quaff.

From the 12 oz can bought at AJ's Fine Foods in Chandler.

A: cloudy golden orange with a big white head

S: mostly banana with some wheat malt in there

T: Banana Orange peel Lemon Peal no clove very interesting and good taste drink this more to the 60 degree side and the orange and lemon come out drink it really cold and banana comes out much more interesting beer. Its finish is dry makes you want to take another drink.

M: light mouth high carbonation

D: real drinkable

overall: wow a very good Hefe and not the same old same old well crafted interesting unique beer that has its own take on a Hefe I was wondering why the hell they put an orange and a lemon on the can but now I know it really is there but its all the yeast they don't but any orange or lemon peel in this. A must try for any Hefe fan to be sure!

Poured from can. Almost no head, disappears quickly. No lacing. Citrus flavor finishes with just a slight bitterness. As far as hefes go, not impressed. Leaves an acidic almost chemical aftertaste long after last sip.

Appearance: Pours a surprisingly clear honey color with a surprisingly modest head for the style; the foam fades quickly and only leaves a few dots of lace

Smell: Bananas and citrus, with an earthy aspect and a hint of clove

Taste: Wheat bread and banana, up front, with white pepper and orange peel developing, in the middle; citrus peel dominant, after the swallow

Mouthfeel: Medium body with prickly carbonation

Overall: Not a bad hefe as domestic versions go (and most domestic versions are much worse); while it dials the banana in nicely, some of the other flavors are out of whack; the mouthfeel also lacks creaminess;

Crafted on 4/15/14.

Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, caramel, spice, and cardboard aromas. Taste is much the same with wheat, caramel, and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but nothing too memorable in my opinion.

I've now had this beer a couple times, including from the can at last summer's 'Cans Fest' in Portland, OR. The most recent time was in the shade last week (still 90-degrees) at Hotel Palomar (Phoenix), poolside ~ first pour off the brand-new tap line. Reviewed from notes: 6/12/12.

12 oz. pour to a bulbous glass.

A: Appropriately hazy wheat-golden hue, glows nicely when backlit by reflected sun. Not much head, a short quickly-fading whitish foam. A few flecks of lace, though I'll blame the glass a little here... nothing seems to stick. Modest rising carbonation, turbid appearance.

S: Robust spiced-sweetness of cloves and orange blossoms, grassy herbs, a bit of bubblegum. Straight up good-smelling Bavarian-styled weissbier... any fears I had of this being 'Hefeweizen' in name but 'American Wheat' in style were quickly laid to rest. Better and better as it warms.

T: First taste was a little 'muddy' - overwrought with wheat - but the second and on were pleasantly sweet and spicy. A touch of orange and lemon, a bit zestier than expected. Grassy/hay-like, even a little peppery. I like it.

M: Smooth and creamy, gently carbonated but with a cleaner finish, sharply tapering off. A bit 'soft', 'light-medium' body if I'm being generous, but HIGHLY refreshing on a day that would soon reach triple-digits (although the local overheard at the next table mentioned that the patio would be great 'once it gets hot'!)

O: Enjoyable, an easy-drinking session-worthy hefeweizen. Pretty true to the style. Have it again? When in Arizona...

S - good wheat beer spiced aroma.

T - taste is banana and spices with some citrus thrown in and a solid malted wheat backbone.

F - medium bodied, it goes down smoothly.

O - a good example of a canned hefeweizen.

A vigorous pour from the can into my 25cl tulip glass produces a four finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a nice gold hue that shows a lightly hazed, bright gold color when held up to the light. Spicy clove notes are noticeable as soon as I pop the tab and this is backed by a nice grainy character that reminds me a bit of dried grassy and barley husks. The nose has a light tartness to it and the clove accentuates a sweet fruitiness that is a bit like green apple or perhaps some sort of melon, but the fruit is definitely secondary to the clove. Soft banana like notes struggle to be noticed underneath the clove and there seems to be a touch of a tin like note to the nose at times.

Dry up front as it first hits my palate, but as it rolls across the tongue it picks up a perceived sweetness from an ample clove character. The finish has a touch of tartness and wheat character, but really it is the clove like phenols that seem to stick to the palate. Fairly light and refreshing, but this does have some body and texture to it; it is not as creamy as the best versions of the style, but neither is this too thin. Having said that, the texture seems simplistic somehow, though I really think it is the bland malt character that this is really attributable too. This has a bit too much of a green apple flavor to it and this seems to accentuate a touch of something that reminds me of a macro lager.

This is not horrible as this is a serviceable HefeWeizen. It just doesn't really integrate all together and it is missing much of the complexity and richness that is needed in a good example of the style.

Not bad. Poured with a decent, off white head that settles down to a light cover and a little lace. Color is a hazy, dirty amber. Aroma is a weaker version of the real Bavarian Hefeweizens. Flavor is like aroma, with a very strong grain component. Body is good and so is carbonation. Finish is like flavor and of short to medium length. Ok for a local brew and if it's competitively priced.

Pours cloudy and yellow, with a small head (but it is just a sampler sized glass.)
Big banana in the aroma, with a hint of clove and maybe some peach? The flavor follows through with lots of banana and sufficient cloves to balance and a beautiful fruitiness. Bready wheat puts in an appearance, too.
Medium bodied, but feels full in the mouth with plenty of carbonation.
A great example of the Bavarian hefeweizen style.
