From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #77 (June 2013):

LOOK: Massive head, hazed peach hue

SMELL: Green banana, mild clove, pineapple juice, rind, bready, faintly spicy

TASTE: Very crisp, deep smoothness, grainy, dry breadiness, minimal hopping, mild juiciness, banana peels, lemon pith, spicy, nutty yeast, pineapple skin, bone-dry finish

Quite unique, as most brewers don’t think “pineapple” in beer. The dryness is a huge plus here. The pineapple is noticeable, yet does not try to take over the base Hefeweizen at all. It really comes down to the uniqueness, which makes it a must-try beer.

At Noble Hops.

Into a pint glass.

A: hazy golden yellow color. For a bar pour, there's a one finger white foamy head that dies within about a minute and some adequate super light clingy lacing that graces the sides of the glass nicely.

S: pineapple up front exactly as the name suggests with a decent amount of wheat opening up the aroma to make a Summery sort of sunshiney refreshing smell

T: sweet through the pineapple and wheat; refreshing sort of sticky pineapple wheat aftertaste, sweet watery yet refreshing sort of finish

M: light to medium in body, tries to be sessionable but the carbonation leads to a heavier quality for an American Pale Wheat

O: for the most part I would have this again, nothing wrong with it but there's nothingvover the top either, if anything the pineapple does taste and smell authentic, so San Tan did what they wanted to.

A beer I threw in a mix-a-sixer at a Trader Joe's in Tucson. I've had a number of good beers from Santan and figured this should be good too.

I poured the beer into a pint glass.

The appearance is good. The pour produces a big head that takes up about a quarter of the glass. The head is fizzy and white in color. It dissipates quickly, settling into a thin layer over the liquid. The beer is dark golden in color and there's abundant carbonation visible.

The smell is very yeasty and malty, somewhat sweet, and has subtle hints of something citrusy, although I don't think pineapple.

The taste mostly continues what the smell started. It's a sweet blend of yeast and malt with an apple like flavor. It reminds me a lot of a friend's English brown, in which the malts also created an apple-like sweet flavor. The pineapple is not notable at all really.

The beer feels a bit overly carbonated, as it bubbles on the tongue far too much to make it smooth and easy-sipping.

Overall, it's an okay beer, but not one I'd likely drink again.

Sampled Time Market, Tucson AZ; April 2012
A bit over-carbonated, arrives with a three-finger thick, pale, just off-white colored head. The beer is a hazy, pale straw gold color. The aroma smells somewhat like stale, fruit focused beer; though not nearly as bad as that sounds in words. There is a definite pineapple like note, though in a fermented / muted sort of way. Dried hay and pale-cracker like malt is subtly here in the nose

Dry, with just a touch of sweetness, the pineapple fruitiness is dominant from the beginning through the middle, but a malty, sort of dried grass like flavor tends to dominate towards the finish. There is a definite wheat flavor to this beer, with a fair amount of graininess captured in the flavor. Light bodied and eminently quaffable, definitely a hot weather sort of beer; luckily this late spring day has gotten over 90 degrees F, so this works pretty well on that end. The pineapple flavors while certainly contributing, doesn’t taste like fresh pineapple, or like fake, pineapple concentrate (so I would guess real pineapple was used here); this is nice on one level, but sort of seems a bit muted on another level. Likely a bit more residual sweetness would help to accentuate the fruit notes, but would also destroy the quaffability and balance that this beer manages to achieve.

Fairly simplistic, and perhaps not as pineapple focused as one might expect in a fruit beer, but I can’t really say that I can complain about that as a big, fake fruit character would be quite a turnoff. As it is, this is a serviceable beer, that I don’t mind sitting here and finishing. Interestingly enough, the IPA I just had seemed to have had more pineapple notes than this beer does.

A: Translucent straw with a little bit of carb on the sides of my pint glass. Throughout the entire glass is what I can only guess is pineapple particulates, giving the appearance of backwash. The head is less than a finger of dirty white, quickly disappearing and leaving no mentionable lacing. The end result is one of the ugliest commercially brewed beers I've ever seen.

N: Standard Hefe with muted fluoride with a hint of inviting citrus fructose.

T: Initial taste is white spritzer, in a good way. The mid palate is sweet and thick, with pineapple clearly showing through but without being overpowering. The aftertaste lightens back out with the wheat and some more white grape. The lasting notes are rice, pineapple and acid.

M: Boilerplate for a Hefe but the end of the swallow displays a fructose thickness.

The actual taste of this beer is a vast improvement on what seems to be the base Hefe for this brewery. I generally hate otherwise decent beer foisted with fruit adjuncts but this Hefe is actually improved with the pineapple additives.

This may be the biggest surprise for me in a while! Honestly I really thought I would hate this beer as I thought it would be as bad as all other flavored beers, however this is my all time favorite at this point. I been drinking this for a few months and keep it stocked whenever I can. The aroma is obviously fruity and sweet, yet light and more of a legitimate beer. The taste is sweet, the pineapple notes light, making it taste like a real beer. The light golden color is a nice touch as is the minimal head and lacing. An amazing finish makes this a great beer! A great effort indeed.

A- Poured a nice golden color with a quickly disappearing head

S- smells very bready/yeasty bannana and pineapple do come through though

T- at first this one starts very yeasty and almost expected spice but instead fades to a very clean pineapple banana fruit

M- Very light and delicate super refreshing and clean

O- For the style this beer is great nothing extraordinary just a well executed heffeweizen great for those africa hot arizona days cheers san tan well done. I usually don't like heffeweizen because of that yeast spice at the end but this one cleans that up nicely
