This beer poured out as a brownish amber color. The head was fizzy and tan. Not a whole lot of lacing here at all. The smell of the beer has some nice autumn aromas coming off of it. The malts smell a little sweet and give off a touch of earthiness. The taste has a little bit of spice to it but mostly dark sweet malts overpower the flavor. The mouthfeel was medium bodied and drinkable. Overall the beer isn't too bad.

On tap at the Bethlehem location.
Poured a medium to deeper amber color with an averaged to larger sized off white head. Aromas of toastiness, lighter earthiness, and some caramel. Tastes of caramel, malty, the same toastiness, and the same lighter earthiness.

Light amber body, sticky lace that surprising fell away to NOTHING half weay through my glass. Nutty malt nose, good mild earthy characters. Touch of spicy hops. Maybe thats the alcohol and the hops are earthy. Dunno. I had a long week! Only faintly sweet with a little graininess. Slight grape and carbonic aftertaste. Appropriately thinnish body and medium to fine carbonation. Good mouthfeel. Definite heat from the alcohol, but this beer isnt hot, just gullet-warming. A good, solid beer, just not my cup of tea. This 7.6% March 2004 version is a little too much for me.

I had heard this was a good one to try, so I went for it. It's a very nice reddish-orange-brown with lively carbonation. The smell is very satisfying and is of smooth malts and prickly hop. The first taste is wonderful. Has a perfect blend of sweet malt and classic German Hallertau hops. Brown sugar sweetness, some small fruit esters, faint alcohol and nicely balanced hops. Very drinkable, and has some punch at 6.6%. An awesome brew to usher in spring. I should have brought my growler.

Wow. That is about the word that would sum this one up. This was my first brew at the Bethlehem Brew Works in some months, and I have to tell you, I could not have picked a better one. A fantastic example of this style, with just enough malt and hop aroma and flavor to send me for a loop. One of the best Marzens I have ever had. If you are in the area, you must try this, which seems to be a rotating or seasonal offering.

After having tried this year's version of this classic style, it is apparent to me that Lewis (brewer at The Brew Works) is really dialed in. That is not to take anything away from past versions of any of their brews. I have always said that up until some time ago, most of their brews had a real Belgian slant, which is fine. However, looking at the Marzen, which tipped the scales at 7.6% ABV this time around, one cannot help but think that this version of it is more "true to style" while still thinking outside the box, and not being boring in ANY way... Smooth, malty and ever so slightly sweet, this one is a pleaser...
I would go so far as to say that this one could turn into an award winner...
Just an additional $.02...
