This is not the same Oatmeal Stout I had a few months ago. This one tasted like a mixture of chocolate, vanilla, and coffee ice cream. It was absolutely delicious. The beer was black. The head was brown, thick, and amazingly sturdy. Brew Works beers don't typically lace but this one did in a big way. Drinking this glass of beer was a pleasure. I was sad to see it end.

A - A classic stout appearance, black body with a light brown creamy head in a pint glass. Sticky all the way leaving residual lacing marks down the inside.

S - Fairly muted, but aromas of roasted malts, toasty grain, bitter chocolate.

T - Big chewy and bold flavors. Roasted malts, oats, bitter and dry. Sweet and bitter chocolate with a tasty mineral quality. Full flavored but not overpowering in any way. A great mix of hearty, sweet and bitter.

M - Soft and rich without too much viscosity. Smooth, with soft subtle carbonation to allow the flavors to shine. A great dry finish.

O - One of the better oatmeal stouts I've had. A truly well balanced stout.

First had: on tap at Bethlehem

Poured a mostly opaque brown-black, with a dense tan head that receded to a thin layer. Almost looked like a nitro, but the taplist didn't indicate it as such, so I'll just say it was "on tap." Aroma of toasted grains, roasty malts, notes of coffee. The taste reflected the aroma, dark roasty malts, ash, burnt coffee, toasted oatmeal, cardboard. Dry and roasty all over with nearly no traces of sweetness, and mildly bitter in the finish. Medium body, fairly drinkable, but pretty lacking in flavor and complexity. Not a great stout, but probably the best flagship offering from Allentown/Bethlehem/Fegley's/whatever.

A - Poured and served with the cascading effect that I have come to love of a nitrogen pour...when it finally settled, the beer was black with a thick, creamy, off white head that stood two fingers tall...the head became rocky and settled to a full cap and left behind some decent lacing

S - With the thick head, the aromas were impeded...but I could pick up some rolled oats, dark and milk chocolate, and some roasted notes

T - First sip brings out the milk chocolate and even some subtle hints of vanilla...the middle is where the roasted malts and rolled oats shine...they soften the flavors and settle nicely on the palate...the dark chocolate, and some coffee, come in towards the finish and leave with a slightly bitter tingle

M - Medium bodied...not quite full...smooth and creamy as it should be...slight bitterness

O - This was a good representation for the style...from the pour, to the flavors, to the finish...the nose could have used some more power and the body could have been fuller...but this is one that I would order for dessert again
