On tap at the Brew Works. My first real time review from a brewpub. Described as a smoked IPA on the menu. Arrived in a shaker "pint" glass for $4.50. Appears a clear pale golden amber color with about a finger of off white head. Nose and flavors consist of earthy herbal hops, lightly toasted bread, a wisp of smoke, mild caramel malt sweetness, a bit fruity white grapefruit pith, sharp wood/oak notes. Medium in both body and carbonation with a bitter slightly pungent/sour finish. As expected, the smoke became a bit more noticeable as the beer warmed. Pretty nice overall.

The Brew Works calls this a smoked IPA, and it's not terribly smokey or bitter, but I guess it's closest to rauchbier. The malt tastes like a mild Scotch ale with the mellow smoke. The dark bread malt is then followed by a small kick of crisp grapefruit hops. The balance is pleasant, but the flavor on a whole is pretty subtle, more on par with a sessionable dark mild ale.
