Pours a nice dark copper color, slightly hazy. Decent aroma of pumpkin pie spices. Flavor is pumpkin and the typical pie spices with a nice dose of brown sugar. Carbonation adds to a creamy texture. Overall a decent imperial pumpkin ale, I had hoped for a bit more flavor at 9%, but this bottle is several years old so that might be the reason.
Would try again with a fresh bottle.

A pint can poured into a clear glass liter mug displays a bright copper-brown and almost clear liquid. There's a decent biege head and some glass lacing. The aroma is mostly of allspice and clove, maybe some nutmeg and cinnamon. Weyerbacher, in a neighboring city, used to annually make among the best pumpkin ales. Their products seem unavailable, so it's up to Fegley's to carry the torch for the Lehigh Valley. The taste is good and the spices and body hide the "Imperial" alcohol AVB rather nicely. Still, it's a little rough going down. Devious Imperial Pumpkin is a good, but not great entry to the category. Addendum: i never allow previous reviews to influence my ratings; however, I do check in after my opinion is record. Once again I noted that all of the 24 lowest reviews are at least six years old. Out of the recent reviews, only one of eleven falls below the average. I know some brewers tweak their recipes. I think that to be more accurate and serve our members better, some sort of time-line division would help. Not advocating making the oldest reviews obsolete, but maybe adding a last recent reviews category would benefit all. P.S. The 2022 version is even more improved. So, the numbers are now updated from the original Look 4.25, Smell 3.75, Taste 4.0, Feel 3.75 and Overall 4.0. Mainly, it's gotten much smoother.

Poured hard from a tall can into a snifter glass, forming a finger or less of off white head that quickly faded to a tiny ring of lacing. Deep orange/amber color, but still transparent. Smell is pumpkin, but a bit sweet/boozy (not pumpkin pie-like). Very nice pumpkin flavor, straightforward and a little bit of a boozy aftertaste, but nothing crazy. Maybe just a hint of spices in the middle. Light to medium bodied with a bit of carbonation bite at the end. Pretty great imperial pumpkin ale without being complicated at all.

Fegleys' Devious Imperial Pumpkin pours a coppery amber, with just enough haze in it to let you know, there is a good amount of genuine pumpkin mash in the brew. The head quickly dissipates into nothingness, leaving no lacing. For most beers, this is a negative. For pumpkin beers, the natural oiliness of true pumpkin mash keeps the good ones in a state of complete liquid lusciousness. Fegleys' is a very fine pumpkin, with fruity overtones of pumpkin, squash, and banana riding a well thought out spice blend, creating a consistent and compelling taste profile that is deeply satisfying. The imperial 9% buzz is well masked, and seductively unassuming. Greater than the sum of its' parts, Fegleys' Devious Imperial Pumpkin is a finely crafted brew that never deviates from it's devious intent. Enjoy!

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass.
L---Deep, burnt amber color with a one finger, beige head. Minimal retention and fairly meh lacing.
S---Light pumpkin spices, not overwhelming like some. Nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, & pepper. Brown sugar & molasses.
T---Follows the nose stride for stride. Brown sugar and molasses are upfront. The aforementioned pumpkin spices round it out nicely.
F---Thick & sticky. Not much carbonation.
O---A very nice pumpkin beer. I'm not sure what differentiates an Imperial Pumpkin Beer from a regular one besides possibly ABV. This one isn't a spice bomb, it's done much more subtly than most.

Drank from 12oz bottle in a pint glass in September 2018. There was no bottled-on date on the label, and I drank this about 1 week after purchase.
Appearance: Very dark golden-red but clear, with a huge tan/brown head. Head was very tall like an IPA and very carbonated, and left a little lacing on the glass.
Smell: Balanced aroma of pumpkin, nutmeg, spices, cinnamon, toasted malts, and caramel as well, but overall the caramel dominate the others. I do not get much hops aroma.
Taste: There is a strong caramel, pumpkin, and cinnamon flavor as well as some peppery spices. Also some roasted malts, and a little bitterness from hops. There is also a hint of sweetness like berries flavor. The caramel is most prominent.
Mouth-feel: Strong alcohol, but with a very smooth and creamy body. Matches the 9.0% alcohol on the label.
This is a nice, spicy ale that has a variety of flavors that adds some complexity to the beer. I like the peppery spice in the flavor. This is a strong-bodied pumpkin ale, which is very smooth and enjoyable to drink. This is a fun beer that I would buy again.
