BBW seemed to be a anticipated stop on a late-night delivery, but turned out to be merely a pit stop. Dropped by with my girlfriend on a Thursday night around 10:30. It wasn't busy but the '90's pop rock booming from the stereo gave a different impression.
The scene is 20-30 somethings hang out and very much speaks to the chain restaurant goer. The decor references an earlier time in Bethlehem's history, of steel, the working man and pride in local quality. Unfortuntely this theme was lost somewhere between faux metal piping and the window placed copper tanks.
The tap lineup on paper looks good - Apricot Coriander, Peche Lambic, Oatmeal Stout, ESB, and Golden Ale accompanied by a number of rotating seasonal English, Belgian, and German style beers. The food too looked good - standard fare, but well suited for the veg and meat eaters alike. The beers came late and the food too early.
The beers lacked depth and the food was overly processed. In my mind craft beer is about quality not showmanship and BBW focuses too highly on the latter. I appreciate their interest in a range of beers - my goodness Peach Lambic and Rude Elf! But again, nothing was exceptional here.
Their beers reach out to an educated beer audience but the result doesn't represent. I wish I could speak more highly, but BBW hovers around average.
