Das Bier is the name we have given our Kölsch-style ale. As usual with we try to stay as close as possible to what a traditional Kölsch is supposed to taste like, although it is our interpretation of the classic style. Bright and clean, Das Bier is perfect for those hot Oregon days. It has a crisp malt character with a touch of hop bitterness. 5.1% ABV, 25 IBU, 4 SRM.

Canned on 6/26/23; consumed on 11/7/23
Pours a foggy, straw-gold body capped with two fingers of richly soapy, eggshell-white foam; good head retention yields a firm finger of cap, large, frothy collar, and ample spread of webby/spotty lacing around the walls of the glass.
Aromas of damp grain silo are invigorated with lime peel, peaking with an herbal Pixie Stix intonation while hints of biscuit and straw establish and wafts of grapefruit seltzer linger.
Taste brings boggy honey and lime peel upfront, with a wet moss tinge crossing the mid-palate and slight minerality lingering to grain silo underpinnings and stale wheat bread on the back end of the profile.
Mouthfeel shows a light body and a rounded, moderate-full carbonation settling over the palate to an ultra-snappy crispness and taut, flaky texturing as the finish remains both dry and snappy.
Vibrant grains spark a unique tendency toward composting fruits and ripe earth in arefined, welcome variation; highly drinkable all the same despite the quirks, yielding a novel expression beautifully in tune with the traditional quaffability of the style.

Clear yellow body with three fingers of white foam, sporadic lacing. Big kolsch yeast nose with supporting honeycomb, lightly sulfuric bread and leafy hops. Taste of lemon peel, yeast, and leafy hops with a hint of saltine. Feel is bright and airy, yeast most obvious texture but malt backing is very light, a tick higher in carb than expected.

I can understand why others would fault this for lacking malt character, but my personal preference actually leans towards what they have done with this one. This reminds me of a more refined version of the Fort Point Kolsch, which I can drink all day. Mild sweetness with buttery, bready, and crackery accents. Light and extremely refreshing.

poured from a 16oz can into a 2nd shift “you deserve this!” stange glass. pours a crisp, clear golden color with over two fingers of white foam head. light hops, faint lager yeast and some light but buttery biscuit / cracker notes. tastes follows with a medium-full, crisp mouthfeel. really dug this style and this is a good one!

16oz can from Tavour. Clear golden pour, fizzy white foamy head. Grainy, biscuity aroma. Taste is malty, bready, clean. Lovely textures and feel. Mild sweetness with little to no bitterness.

Late summer's evening, perfect for a tasty German ale, this time a Kolsch. Pours crisp and clean, frothy head. Light nose of bread dough. Well carbonation, medium dry, Very modest 5% ABV. BItterness is modest. The beer's taste is a little on the the thin side, and could use a boost in malt and hop levels. It's still good, being Heater Allen after all, but not up to other offerings in these parts.

Ok. Ya. Boom. Here we are. Here we be. Usually Kolsch’s are about as exciting as going to prom with a moron chick, but here we got something a little more exciting. Nah, it’s not that freaky vampire girl, but it’s more like a German exchange student who has more than biology on her mind.
Yep!

Look: Almost clear light orange with an excited pure white head forming and fed by cool little jet streams of bubbles from the bottom of the glass
Aroma: Flowers, lemongrass, some wet straw, bready malt notes with a honey-like sweetness, and pilsner malt
Taste: Floral hops and honey-coated bread go strong on the start, joined quickly by nice lemony notes. Wet straw and pilsner malt show up and interplay with the citrus, flowers, and honey. Very clean and soft on the finish
Mouthfeel: Lively carbonation but still incredibly soft throughout. Softness in both the start and finish but some crispness in the middle keep it light
Overall: I dig it. This is a delicious take on a Kolsch and one I could easily drink year-round. Nice floral, lemon, and honey notes plus that clean and crisp but also soft feel that embodies what I look for in the style. Delicious and recommended **Note: This batch (I’ve had 2) is a slight miss for these folks as I can detect some priming sugar in them which I usually do not as I drink this beer every year when it is available and ignored this flaw in my review**

Pretty solid. Clean, mildly sweet malt with a touch of wet grain. Floral bitterness is fairly mild, nicely balanced, medium lighter body, appropriate carbonation (not too prickly) with a fair bit of softness, goes down fast and easy.
