Poured into a snifter on 8/4/12

Pours a darker than medium brown and looks black in the glass. Foam was reluctant to rise at first, but after a higher pour it hit a hair more than a finger's worth. A large swath of bubbles remains as does some strands of lace.

Two words best describe the aroma: simple and good. Dark roasted grains with hints of dusty yeast. Roasted chocolate and cocoa powder. This smells incredibly smooth. Faint dark fruit note. I'd be inclined to call the aroma great, but it gets to be too doughy; really does a number on it.

The taste is more straightforward than the aroma even. It's plenty roasted with bitter coffee and dark chocolate throughout. At first I don't find the flavor and body to be as lush as the aroma was (at least initially), but it does seem to thicken up with warmth. The feel is probably appropriate, especially considering carbonation is on the low side, but I would not complain if it were a smidgen more robust. Some of the dough carries over and starts to wear down on the flavor and my overall ability to enjoy this beer.

There are enough good things about this beer to make it frustrating that the dough notes are as prevalent as they are. Regardless, it's definitely drinkable. As is, however, this is mid-tier, unfortunately.

This express arrives black as coal and delivers a whispy mocha covering of fine foam. A delicious looking porter.

The nose has roasty toasty malt and sweet creme brulee.

Taste begins with intense roast and flavorful coffee followed by a creme brulee, dark gingerbread and molasses finish.

Mouthfeel is rich and full with fine carbonation.

Overall a great offering from O'so brewing. This would lend itself nicely to bourbon barrel aging. I would certainly have this again.

Thanks to my wonderful wife for bringing me this brew!

A: Deep brown as it pours. In the glass the head is cappuccino colored, and somewhat reserved. The color so deep brown that it boarders black, it's opaque with a number of yeast chunkies in there.

S: Roasted grain, and milk chocolate are the first scents to come out of my glass. There is a touch of licorice, as well as some herbal notes. There is a sweetness like a oatmeal stout, or milk stout.

T: Roasted malt, and sweet chocolate. A little bit of an herbal hit along with some bitterness from the hops, combining with a little licorice flavor. The finish has something I can't quite pick out.. perhaps a touch of high alcohols.

M: Feels a little light for the style.. Medium light to medium in body. Carbonation is low and slow, you really pick up the bubbles as you swallow. The finish is a touch astringent, but not in a bad way.

O: Overall I think it's a nice beer. Good dark malt flavor, bordering on a number of stout styles.. If you told me this was a oatmeal stout I wouldn't question it. Nice beer, and a brewery I haven't ever tried before!

Nice roasty quality with a tad of coffee and a bit of creaminess. A nice little richness. Minimal hops and pretty straight-foward.
Poured fairly aggressively and briefly held a small tan head. Very black and minimal light appearance.
Seems likes there is a little vanilla in this. Swift and initial, but there. Rest of drink is more porter. Quite long dry from roasted grains finish. Pretty darn bold roast and dark malt flavor. Nice and tasty, although there may be a bit of age on this one.
On the lighter side of moderate for feel with flatter carbonation, which is fine by me.
Some nice bold aspects that really pushes it. Any more on this would be too much, and it already might be too much for some. Nonetheless, an interesting and very flavorful drink.
Thanks BIL John.
