Poured a rich black with brown highlights when held to light and two fingers of thick tan foam. A nice looking beer, different from a standard Berliner Weisse, but nice. Scents of lactic acid, cider vinegar, spicy rye, bread crust, toasted malt, light brown sugar and a light fruitiness, especially apple. Overall impression of aroma is of a very unique beer. The basics of a Berliner Weisse are certainly present, yet mixed with dark rye and toasted aromas. It ones together as a cohesive whole and is quite pleasant. Flavor begins highly sour with notes of lactic acid, cider vinegar, white grape and green apple mingling with light levels of toasted malt and a flavor of good quality nutty coffee. This flavor carries over into the middle, yet sourness is even more pronounced. Finish is extremely sour, carrying the earlier flavors, but at their most sour in the sip with notes of bread crust, toasted malt and grainy malt. Aftertaste begins lactic and sour, but quickly gives way to nutty, toasty, bready flavors. Overall impression of flavor is of an extremely sour beer that would fit perfectly as a normal Berliner Weisse if not for the pleasant maltiness that comes through and supports the sourness. A unique flavor, but one that is very pleasant. Mouthfeel is light bodied with high, effervescent carbonation and a puckering, drying feel. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a crisp, light beer that is quite refreshing? Overall this is an excellent experiment. It takes a fantastic Berliner Weisse base and adds a new take on it with the dark malts. Very good and well worth trying.

Maybe more a 4 out of 5; I'm/we're back and forth on how good this really is. I do like it. I'm shocked in that I couldn't pin point a very easily detectable flavor that hits you right off the bat. Coffee! I was racking my brain for something else to identify said component and wasn't "expecting" that, to say the least. Neat flavor added to a Berliner Weiss. Very good sour profile here and enough tartness to garner the expected pucker! Interesting and well done Destihl.
