Notes from July 16, 2014 at Hopleaf, Chicago, IL

A: Reddish brown. A bit hazy. No head and no lacing.

S: Plum, cherry and raisin.

T: Big plum flavor. A bit tart plum skin. Has a hint of sweeter dried fruit notes like raisin.

M: Thin and carbonated

D: Looks smells and tastes like plum. Not too sour at all.

12 fl oz. can, with coded canned on date 11/10/2014. My second beer from Destihl Brewery.

Poured into a La Fin Du Monde tulip glass.

A - It pours a dark caramel brown body with three big fluffy fingers of head. Leaves lots of nice lacing behind.

S - The aroma is initially tart and yeasty, lightly grapey, but the toasty caramel / brown malts take over.

T - Taste follows the nose: perfect amount of sour, some bacterial yeasty presence, and a hint of brown / caramel malt.

M - The feel is crisp, tart, & fruity. Very easy drinking.

Overall, another excellent sour from Destihl. Definitely has me interested to try more from these guys.

poured into a CS tulip glass.

Appearance: murky brown body with a dark reddish hue. Big and thick off white almost khaki colored head. Has decent head retention and leaves a really thick lacing on the glass. Head eventually drops down to no head at all.

Smell: Brine, salt, pickles and plums.

Taste: Very similar to the nose. You pick up the brine, pickles, and salt immediately; its pretty evident. A hint of ripe plums. Slightly vegetal. Weird flavor combination. Minimal tartness; not sour at all. 1/10 on level of tartness found in this beer.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with medium carbonation levels. Creamy carbonation. The beer feels fairly watery, not dryness at all.

Overall: Here Gose nothing was a pickle, salt, and brine bomb. The Flanders Red seems like it has a similar flavor profile to it. I really am pretty disappointed that this wasn't better because I would love an affordable canned sour beer that is readily available to be a real situation... Destihl Wild sour series is now 0-2 in the canned sour line up. This is nothing close to a Flander Red style sour ale; buyer beware.

Not the best interpretation of a Flanders Red, but definitely good for the price point.
