This German-style rye beer is brewed with over 30 percent rye malt for a pleasant spiciness, and it has low hop rates, a dark amber color, medium body, chocolate/light-caramel/roasted malt flavors, sweetness and aroma and Hefe yeast characters.

Had on tap at Destihl in Bloomington.
Look - A murky brown-orange with some strong white lacing.
Smell - Lemon meringue pie and buttermilk. A weird sort of creamy/tangy hybrid scent.
Taste - Black licorice, grapefruit, a bit of a peppery spice. Very similar to rye whiskey, which makes sense.
Feel - Medium body with medium carbonation. Full yet lively, I like the feel.
Overall - A beer with character, but it doesn't quite do it for me. Not sure if rye beer is my thing.

Tried the current batch at the brewpub, and it was much improved from last year. Strong carbonation, better color and clarity. Distinct earthy/bready rye grain flavors, a big malt bomb that was much more drinkable.
04-15-2008 - on-tap
Listed as a German-style Dark Rye Ale.
Initial thin ring of foam that dwindles to nothing. No foam, low to zero carbonation. Nice deep brown chestnut color. Murky and opaque.
Aroma of maple syrup, nothing else I could pick up on. Same with the flavor, uncarbonated maple syrup. It had very little rye or spicy character at all. There was some banana as well that reminded me of a weak Dunkelweizen. Only beer I didn't finish at the brewpub.
