Purchased a six pack for about $10. Bottle has a respectably cool label, and lists ABV at 6.8%, and I do like my IPA's right around 7% so I'm good with that. Also says it won the bronze at the '07 GABF - almost 7 years ago now but I guess that's still somewhat relevant. Lists cascade and centennial as the hops, and also promises balance from light malt. Let's see.

Poured into a Chimay goblet, golden, honey-colored, clarified, average effervescence, slightly off white head that reduces to a fine sheet of bubbles and a collar around the rim of the glass fairly quickly (but these Chimay glasses are short so I didn't go for a huge pour).

Nose is dry, obviously hoppy, some light fruit underneath, a few candy/berry-like notes, but not presenting itself as a big, juicy, tropical IPA.

First sip: nice, almost delicate citrus profile, and it's good. Second sip and I notice more citrus but some of the malt the label advertised as well, and it is somewhat balanced, though I'd say leans more towards hops. Citrus definitely deepens as you go further in, with orange and tangerine. Carbonation is light-medium, medium mouthfeel with a little airiness to it, and bitter finish. Light booze throughout, and there is also some floral character.

Overall I like this. I've had IPA's that were just big and malty and hoppy, and I don't think Mission achieved this, but it is definitely a good IPA. Probably not going into my rotation, but this is solid and makes me want to try some of their other offerings.

22oz bomber. Pours a shade above amber, good clarity with a thin white film of head. Retention isn't really there and the few flecks of lacing on the glass have very little staying power.

Big malt profile of bready grain, caramel sweetness and honey crackers. Hops follow up with citrus and pine, fruity notes follow. Tangerine and orange citrus, very sweet, pine is balancing and there is a whiff of apricots/soft stone fruit. Alcohol is dampered, full profile on the nose, just rather boring.

Balanced, bready malt with honey crackers and some stale grainy bits. Hops really rock a strong tangerine and sweet citrus note to start. There it begins to devolve into pine and herbal flavors and bitterness. Aftertaste is flat orange citrus and earthy/muddy bitterness that the alcohol only serves to strengthen. West coast hop IPA that comes off as muddled.

Typical of Mission brews that I've had to this point it has a substantial body, definitely above average for the style. Lacking in carbonation to adequately lift the hop flavors to make them pop. Malt is sticky and muddy bitterness provides some drying that gets brightened with alcohol.

A really clunky IPA, drink cold for best results. Mission puts in a nice west coast hop profile that has its bright citrus and stone fruit moment. Then gets swallowed up in the malt, low carbonation and earthy bitterness, when warmer this beer was very difficult to put down.
