22 oz. bottle tired 7 May 2010. Thanks to K for bringing this back from California for us.
Served in a 22 oz. Shiner wheat beer glass.
Large white head quickly dissipates. Cloudy orange amber color. Aroma is strongly reminsicent of citrus, yeast. Like oranges gone bad. Touch of urine almost. Very tangy to taste, hard to get past aroma which is not improving with the temperature. Medium chewy body. Again flavor is dominated by old/bad oranges. Like a bag of oranges left out in the heat a few days past their prime but not quite to the point of being rotten.
Becomes worse as you drink. A rare drain pour, drank maybe 2 out of 22 oz... Avoid.
Somehow A liked this better than I did (judging by score) but drank even less than I did...

This beer should not be labeled a Hef. It mgiht be great if you are expecting some other type of ale that has a little bit of yeast and has some tart taste to it. But a hef this is definitely not. I think this would earn a double face slap from a German brewery if they were given this and told it was a hef. For the type it is disgusting.

Uuggg... This became fairly painful after a few sips. Overwhelming orange peel and banana pudding. That goes from the smell until 5 minutes after drinking. This is all about acid and banana pudding. The balance is out of whack. There are some spice elements with clove and coriander but the are easily overwhelmed but the acid and pudding.

I was a little disappointed. I was so excited to try the hefe since it was the first time we could get it in Colorado. Sorry to say but I will probably never buy it again, I will stick to the local brews instead. Epic failure on this one, but they did redeem themselves with the Dark Seas.

Appearance: Very cloudy, much more so than an average wheat beer. The head was almost nonexistent, but had decent lacing for whatever was there.
Smell: Smells faintly of hops and strongly of yeast and fermentation.
Taste: This is what got me. It tasted a lot like a bad experiment of mine where I mixed some peach cider with some Yuengling because I was sick of drinking Yuengling. The only difference was that instead of having a peach flavor, the flavor was more like mixing apple juice and a wheat beer. Very difficult to drink since I resented every swig.

The head is gone quickly
Smells light and tart
Taste it is a bit sour, tart with some overripe banana, not what I expected from a hefeweizen style
Mouthfeel not much here
I don't like to write bad reviews but this is not a beer to buy, I would avoid it until they update their recipe

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass, the beer pours a crystal clear pale golden color with a good amount of bubbling carbonation. White, thick, foamy head to start, but quickly settles into a standard thin film of foamy head. The smells are slightly sour, with no spice present. Also, a musty, slightly unpleasant characteristic sneaks into the aroma. The beer is oily slick in mouth. Flavors are quick on the tongue, and there is a slightly tart citrus tone, with other fruity flavors muddled about. Again, no spices to speak of. Sour and bitter characteristics develop as you continue to drink. The beer's flavors retreat quickly from the tastebuds, and there is not any considerable aftertaste. There is a slight bittering on the tongue during the finish. Not overly pleasant, and I have had much better Hefs.

Pours a cloudy golden orange. Very little head and no lacing. Aroma is of tart fruit, and bready malts. Body is thin with some carbonation. Taste is of sour dough, sour fruit. Not tart...sour. Not a lot of what I like so much about this style. Not very goodin my humble opinion. I recommend you avoid.

Light hazy orange with less than a finger of white head that immediately dies. This was with a hard pour, as well.
Banana, bubblegum and clove over some doughy malts.
Good banana flavor, with a bit of clove. Nice tartness. Some doughy malt as well.
Needs a lot more carbonation, feels thicker than it is due to the lack.
At least they got the yeast flavors right.

Found it at a BevMo in the local craft beer section. Pours heavy, no head whatsoever. Hazy color, very little carbonation. Not a whole lot of bite, I guess I prefer a hefe that's a little bit more crisp and flavorful. Overall, I gave it a shot as a local brew, but wasn't very impressed.

Pours a cloudy/ milky yellow to brown color with an off white head. In the aroma, dry bananas and yeast. In the taste, big spices, dry banana and a yeasty end. A spice bite and medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a dry banana and spice in the aftertaste. I felt it was overly yeasty, and asked how long this keg has been on, thinking it was the end of the barrel. I was told this is the second one they tapped and it has been like this continuously. Everything was fine in smell and taste, except o bit yeasty, but it looked like hell.

12oz bottle from CJ's Potsdam NY for 2$
Appearance – Hazy amber colour with an average size fizzy off-white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation and there is some faint lacing. The head lasted for around 3-4 minutes before it was gone.
Smell - Grains/wheat, bananas, a rustiness/metallic notes
Taste & Mouth - The beer has an average amount of carbonation. I can taste grains/bread mixed with lots of citric acid and some banana. There is also some light spices/yeast notes. It ends with a tart citric acid aftertaste.
Overall – Some shades of a sour with this beer.. it really isn't as drinkable as it should be. It seems like a poorly made beer and not something I'd buy again.

I've been seeing Mission products on the shelves at some stores here in Orange County. I was even surprised to see this in the bomber at the Wine Excahnge. I have everything ready to go. On to the beer:
This beer doesn't really have a head. You pour the beer into the glass, and it fizzles away to nothing. The body is on the mark though, a cloudy bold orange-yellow color. The aroma has a few intersting aspects. Oxidation (cardboard) is most noticed, but the creamy banana and ground clove aromas sure make things mouth-watering. Maybe a touch of alcohol too.
The label promises no fruit was added to this beer, but I beg to differ. It sure tastes like someone sqeeze a lemon in my beer. There's a load of lemon in this beer, and little (if any) resenblance of a hefeweizen. The best I can say is it doesn't have a bad taste, just one way out in left field. I feel like I'm drinking lemonade. The beer has good carbonation and a medium-body.
What's weird is this beer doesn't taste bad, and it isn't bland. Instead, it's one that was intended to be like an authentic Bavarian hefe, and turned into an expensive lemon beverage with alcohol. I can't find anything German-styled here except the style name.

Pour rises up into large fizzy head, but rapidly dissipates - almost no lace. Initially clear but murky after adding yeast from bottom of bottle. Nose of clove, over-ripe apples, mildly peppery phenols - very promising. Carbonation is a bit fizzy and rough, not creamy. It's a bit unsettling. Flavor is yeasty and a bit quite sour with a bit of spiciness. Finish is dry with white pepper and lime. I like the beer. It is very refreshing. But when Mission Brewery says on the label that the beer is a "German-style wheat beer", I would have to say that Mission did not quite hit the mark for the hefeweizen (at least not how it is interpreted at this time.)

Bottle from Premiere Gourmet. No a great representative of the style, this beer has some spot-on characteristics of the style and some poor ones. Pours unfiltered look, but also light orange with rising carbonation bubbles. Some orange and wheat aroma but also a little stinky. Sour wheat was OK, some sips tasty, but also off notes. A bit thin for the style. I did not finish the bottle.

Pours a light gold color, slightly cloudy, with a faint head.
Aromas are of citrus, some lime, lemon, and mineral hops.
Taste is very citrus like, lots of lemon, and not much more. Some light sweetness, with a bitter hoppy finish.
Mouthfeel is thin and watery.
Drinkability is so so at best. Not really digging this one, not a great example of the style. Too much bitter citrus flavors.

Pours a nice pale hazy golden colour with modest white head that doesn't last long. Nose is moderate banana with lemon, and overall not very aromatic. On the palate it is noted to be watery, with some light banana and wheat cracker. Carbonation seemed low, which perhaps contributed to the watery observation up front. Easy drinking but not inspiring in the least.
