An early release here in February, the beer guy installed the display yeasterday.
Poured out, a few shadesdarker than the normal Herford pils. Head is medium, light, fades rather quickly.
Smells of fresh grass, grain, malt, a light spiciness of pepper, light, herbal, sweet, spicy.Quite nice if you ask me. Fruit, something a bit like a clementine, bread. Look foward to the 1st sip.
Flavor is a few notches above smell. Malty sweet breadiness, apple, finishing with a nice amount of heat and pepper in the finish I would not have predicted in a 6% brew. The warming effect is nice. Light rumminess, pear, oak.I find a light hint of toffee or tobacco. This is becoming much better than expected. I like the finish the best.Spicy, pepper, herbal, goes down easily.
Mouthfeel is medium. Drinkabillity is also good, the mid range ABv and good carbonation balance things out.
After the likes of of Andecher's Bergbock, and the unforgettable Augustiner Heller Bock I had last year at the Augustiner Keller, this one doesn't hold a candle, but a good brew nonethless.
I'll buy the 3.39 six pack. Cheers

33cl bottle poured into Paulaner seidel.
BBE Aug 2011
A- Dark gold body with excellent clarity. Head is 2 finger and solid initially, eventually reducing without much lacing to a thin crown.
S- Doughy bread initially after pour, a hint if spicy pepperiness. DMS/mustiness hint lingering.
T- Toasty malt, melanoidins initially, fades to a slightly appley sweetness in the finish. In between the subtle DMS/mustiness comes through. Hint of alcohol heat in the finish. The flavours are there but are subtle, lacks life.
M- Low carbonation, medium body, lager clean
D- Each aspect of the beer initially is very good, appearance, smell and flavour, but with each sip, the elements seem to fade away. Not sure if this is due to age. Overall, you can tell there is a solid flavour profile, just seems to lack staying power. Not bad.

Bought this beer amongst others when i visited Germany. When you see the etiket with Maibock you expect to get a beer which is a bit special.
Poured the beer in a dutch beerglass the head is nice but disappears quickly. There is almost no carbonation.
The smell is not bad but good is rated too much.
There is no taste at all, It is a bit refreshing but thats all there is to say about this beer. The mouthfeel i less than average.
There are more and better German beers to drink.

Bottle has a freshness date of 10/2007. I actually had this beer some time ago (before the expiration date) but was waiting for the brewery to be added to BA before I could post a review.
The beer pours a clear gold color with a small white head that fades rather quickly. Smell is very sweet malt with a hint of fruit to it. Taste follows the nose with a very sweet malt flavor. The slightest of hop taste and for all the sweetness it drys very quickly. Very nice full flavor moutfeel. Really ashame this beer is not available outside the area that it is brewed. Very highly drinkable.
