A dark altbier, that poors a deep brown color w/ redish tints in the light. Nice hard edge layer, but not other head at all. Not much to write about. Smells are mainly sweet chocolate, toffee, and some hops aroma- not overly complex or mindblowing. Taste is mainly sweet chocolate flavors with vanilla hints and caramel- hops were not aparent with the dark malts (did remind me of drinking hot chocolate though). Light bodied stout; creamy; nice balance of the carbonation and creamy sweetness. Easy to drink for a stout, but not very complex; decent. I'd have another, and I feel this is the pick of the litter of the brewpub.

Deep dark brown to black in color. Poured with a thick light beige foam that reduced to a soapy cap. Nice combination of roasted and chocolate malt aromas. Chocolate aromas intensified as this warmed a bit. Full bodied feel. Creamy smooth up front with rich, concentrated carbonation at the finish. Roasted malt flavors up front with hints of chocolate underneath. Light hop bitterness in the middle that ushers in coffee flavors at the finish. Finishes crisp and dry with a lingering roasted maltiness. A solid stout.
