Decided to finally make a trip up to Shangy's to stock up for a party and this Fall. WHAT A WASTE OF 2.5 HOURS OF MY TIME. Brought my list of Top 10 Oktoberfests avail in PA, and top Pumpkin Ales. Stared going over it with the old dude in the back, and while he seemed to know everything they had, they only had ONE in that top 10 (Victory - like every other distributor)... no Ayinger, no Hacker-Pschorr, no Paulaner, no Penn, no Avery... shall I go on? He actually had the nerve to tell me that the German varieties were not being brought to the US for a couple weeks. BS! On the pumpkin side, they were better, having most that I wanted, but it took 15 minutes just to find them in this maze... I asked him how the store was organized, and he emphatically/proudly said "We're NOT, great beer is everywhere!" ... I really wanted to punch him. There is ZERO organization - not by Style, not by Country, not by Brand. What a Pain in the Ass... how are you supposed to find anything in less than 30 minutes in this mess? Seems as tho they're more concerned with keeping eye-catching pyramids of cases than actually helping their patrons. I walked out w/2 mediocre Oktoberfests that weren't on my list, 3 pumpkins, and a lot of frustration. Prices were good... I suppose if I lived within 10 minutes, I'd be there often and just learn more patience. But I will never waste 2.5 hours of an afternoon again.
p.s. on the way home, stopped by my usual Distributor, Frank Smith's in Pottstown - and guess what... they had ALL the German Oktoberfests - all organized TOGETHER, and right there with all the good, craft Pumpkins.

I used to live within 20 minutes of this place which was both a blessing and a curse.
There certainly isn't any case distributor in the valley that comes close with selection. It's clean, brightly lit and well kept.
The staff isn't the most helpful with recommendations though they certainly aren't unpleasant- save the one cashier. Nima, the owner, is one of the sweetest guys you'll meet and a nice chat if you're able. If you're looking for something they don't have in stock but are able to order, they'll usually accommodate which is very nice.
It's been said over and over in the reviews but I'll echo the sentiment for checking the dates on the more obscure(especially import) cases. Usually not an issue but it happens.
Pricing is spotty; you'll find some deals and you'll find some high, though that's no new phenomenon.
Worth a trip if you're in the area and want to lighten your wallet,

I've been a Shangy's customer and fan for over 20 years. This is simply the best beer store I've ever seen or heard of. Top marks for quality, quantity, variety, and generally really good value. Staff is mostly knowledgeable and owners are really into good beer. "Welcome to Beer Heaven"!
