Pour was black as night. 1 finger khaki head that lasted just a while. Very very nice on the nose. Lots of vanilla and marshmallow. MILK CHOCOLATE!!! Taste is wonderful like the inside of a Lindor chocolate truffle!!!! Wow blown away by the taste on this one. Very very well done!!! You still get the vanilla and marshmallow on the back end but not as strong as the nose!! Mouth feel was good a lil lighter than I prefer but I always compare mouth feel to bourbon county!! Overall outstanding brew.

2013 bottle. Thanks Tim. Poured into a CCB snifter 7/19/2014.

Beer #1,000, Review #700.

A- Opaque pitch black body, with a one finger mocha head that is quite dense. Good retention. Thin streaks of lacing stick to the glass intermittently.

S- Huge chocolate fudge. Roasted malts, cocoa, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, dark fruits. Complex nose that is packed full of all the aromas you would ever want from a BA stout. Some coconut along with the vanilla makes me think liquid marshmallows. Reminds me a lot of BCBS and to an extent, Rare. Gets even better as it warms up.

F- Roast malts, chocolate fudge, oak, bourbon. Similar to the nose, but the vanilla, dark fruits and chocolate fudge character seem to recede a bit in the background to the bourbon. The bourbon flavours on the finish are very clean and flavourful without getting too dominant. Quite well-done.

M- I have to agree with previous reviewers that for the amazing nose and complex flavours this beer delivers, the mouthfeel really hinders it's execution. It's on the thinner side of medium in body and is not very substantial on the tongue. Lower in carbonation as expected. Finish is chocolate fudge bourbon, slightly smoky and oaky but sweet.

O- This beer has all the markings of a top-shelf BCBS variant as far as the nose and flavour profile goes, but it lacks the vaunted thick, chewy mouthfeel. Definitely worth getting a bottle of if you've not tried it before, but there are BA stouts out there that offer a more complete drinking experience.

Reviewing the Remy's Pappy from TAPS Fish House & Brewery out of Corona, California. This beer is their award-winning Imperial Russian Stout aged in 23 year old Pappy Van Winkle bourbon barrels.

Score: 97

2013 vintage bottle served in a snifter glass and enjoyed on 04/21/14. Review is from iPhone notes.

Appearance: Pours an inky black color with a thin layer of khaki head that settles to a ring around the glass. No lacing or retention. Good oily legs. 4/5

Smell: Bourbony chocolate and milk chocolate. Vanilla, coconut, graham crackers, and molasses. Bold bourbon notes present, but not in a boozy/fusel way. Ample dark fruit too. Light caramel and toffee notes. What an appetizing aroma! Bold and well-integrated. 5/5

Taste: Big vanilla-forward bourbon flavor and milk chocolate, with a bold and lasting bourbony finish. Lovely coconut and graham cracker flavor towards back half. Dark fruit comes out in the finish more and more as the brew warms up and breathes. Really, it tastes an awful lot like it smells. Not boozy or fusel at all. The flavors meld nicely! I love how much milk chocolate comes across despite the bourbon-forward characteristics. 5/5

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, low carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel, just a touch dry on the finish. 4.25/5

Overall: My only knock on this beer is that the mouthfeel was lacking relative to its big bold nose and flavor, but it was not a "thin" beer by any means. The bold coconut/vanilla/graham cracker flavors are magnificent. I think I slightly prefer to Trace of Remy due to the relatively better mouthfeel, but both are excellent twists on the normally Heaven Hills-aged Remy (a delicious brew in all its own right). The guys at TAPS really know how to get the most out of a bourbon barrel! Seek this one out with confidence.

Cost: $35 for a 750 ml beer.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black and viscous pour. Very small khaki head. Thin collar.

Smell - Rich bourbon. Oak. Vanilla. Sweet molasses. Caramel. Dark fruits and some milk chocolate.

Taste - Dark fruits and molasses are the predominant flavors. Bourbon blends nicely. Doesn't have a sharp bourbon alcohol flavor. Lots of oak in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Low carbonation and pretty sweet. Boozy, too. Big beer.

Overall - Another Remy variant that is damn near perfect. This is spectacular.

2015 release (had an extra year in the pappy barrels). Had it at Taps in Corona on 3/31/15. Drank over a 1hr 30 min so it had time to warm up. Poured dark in the glass with little carbonation. Smelled of bourbon, coffee, malt. Taste similar to smell. This was sweet and smooth. More coconut flavor as it warmed. Thick mouthfeel. My ideal IRS. Expensive but worth it. It's definitely not something I would drink often not only due to price but also its a very rich stout. For me this would be more of a special occasion treat.

Poured from 750ml bottle into tulip glass

A- jet black, like oil pouring from the bottle. The head is deep thick and a dark tan. The head dissipates into a pretty thick lace around the edges.

S- the first thing that hits me is dry dark chocolate. Then there is a sweet rich bourbon that completely takes over.

T- follows the nose so well. The chocolate is so dry and sticks to your throat in a good way. The bourbon is instense. Definitely the main driver of this beer. Super sweet with touches of vanilla and caramel and oak. Very nice flavor. Very subtle roast flavor as well.

M- medium to heavy body. Definitely not as think as I expected it to be.

O - nothing negative about this beer at all. If they put a touch of real coffee in this beer it would be a perfect 5.

Super bummed about missing fw invitational decided to crack this guy to cheer me up. It did the job

750 into eclipse snifters

A- super dark brew completely black with a thin head that dissipates quickly

S- fudge and chocolate right up front followed by vanilla and bourbon sweetness. Smells fantastic

T- follows the nose closely with a lot more heat.
The bourbon comes through strong, similar sweetness to pappy eclipse. Very enjoyable

M- very think and heavy. Good mouthfeel but the heat is more present that I would have liked

O- fantastic brew. Thanks carlos in SoCal to making this one happen. Reminds me quite a bit to assassin and gom, but with more alch burn.

Very good!

doing a side by side with Pappy Remy and Remy(2013)!

poured into TG snifter.

Appearance: black bodied beer with thick cap of tan head. has booze legs some staining noted to the glass.

Smell: barrel forward nose. lots and lots of oak and coconut notes. fudgy umami. top shelf bourbon.

Taste: flourless chocolate cake, caramel, and coconut. premium bourbon that is rich and sweet. decadent dessert stout. tobacco and light roast help balance out the sweet a little bit. vanilla in the finish with more chocolates, but the dry oak notes finish out the beer nicely. lingering flavors from this stout.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with low carbonation. sticky, but not thick as I would like this beer to be. very smooth and not very boozy. It needs a thicker body this was the beers only short fall for me.

Overall: Once again the magic of the Pappy barrel shines through! The flavor and nose are fantastic, but the mouth could be improved. Remy was also good and it actually had a better mouthfeel than Pappy Remy. I still prefer Pappy Remy over Remy.

Had really high expectations going into this beer, so that is why I might have been disappointed a bit. Was cold at first and smelled a lot like bourbon county stout. Flavor got better as it warmed giving it a boozy marshmallow flavor. Poured dark but was thinner than expected. I enjoyed this beer but again was slightly disappointed.

I'm sitting here Sharing the bottle with Mrbubbler. Poured into a tulip. A tad thin. Looks like it has minimal carbonation. Definitely sat in a barrel appearance . Smells like graham cracker vanilla marshmallow punch in your face ! Taste follows the nose pretty much. Lots of sweet bourbon tones. This is really fucking good. Mouthfeel is a tad thin would be my only complaint. No alcohol present at all ; like no boozey heat. Overall this is a pretty amazing beer. Glad to have a scored a bottle !

DLD 2014. Great share from my asian brother. 2 oz. into a glencairn.

A - Frothy, deep black. Proper legs and good viscosity.

S - Caramel glaze, espresso beans, vanilla candle, ginger. Obvious wheated bourbon influence.

T - Front palate of bitter oak melds into a super duper chocolate bomb. Seriously fantastic mocha and milk chocolate interplay. More barrel related vanilla, honey, etc. on the finish.

M - Moderately-thick body, semi-long bitter finish. Appropriate.

D - Purposely avoided the hype on this one in order to fairly judge against a few other PVW20 BA bottles, and this one was the clear winner. Good base beer, great barrel treatment, and overall I applaud TAPS.

Pours a chocolatey pitch black with tan head. Creamy cocoa colored head with nice retention. Nose is amazing. Huge chocolate, fudge, oak and marshmallow character. The pappy barrel shines through nicely. Taste isn't quite as decadent as the nose, but plenty of oak, bourbon, and chocolate. Very smooth with very low alcohol heat. Overall, delicious.

Poured into a Hunahpu's snifter and shared with a couple guys. Was excited to tick this one and thanks to Tim for making this trade happen.

A - Appearance is a dark pour with a half finger mocha foam head that recedes back into the glass. Does not pour out as thick as I would like

S - Smell is awesome here, tons of bourbon up front followed by the chocolate and marshmallow smells that everyone else describes here. These smells really come out as you let it warm

T - Taste follows the nose with the dominate taste right now being the Pappy flavors coming through which are delightful. As it warms the chocolate marshmallow sweetness comes out and it improves the beer dramatically.

M - This is my only knock on the beer. I was wanting this to be thick and chewy with a full body, but it ended it being on the thin side with some weird carbonation feeling going on in there. Tim mentioned some variation, will re-review after I open my second bottle.

O - Overall the taste was exactly what I was expecting, marshmallows soaked in bourbon, but the mouthfeel makes this beer a little off-putting. Still worth going after for the taste and smell aspect alone. Fingers crossed for my other bottle being thick.

Appearance- Slightly translucent dark brown pour turns up a mocha head that fades into a coat that persists through the last swig.

Smell- Fudgy milk chocolate and dark cherries. Amaretto. Bourbon. Cherry cordial candy.

Taste- Follows the nose. Lots of sweet chocolate, cordial cherries, vanilla bourbon sweetness finishes with a boozy spicy rye kick. PVW15 barrels, perhaps? Got even better as it warmed.

Mouthfeel- Based on the reviews and pour, I was expecting this to be thin. It wasn't. Sure, it wasn't the motor oil of BADL or CCB (DBH, LiL, etc), but it wasn't lacking body. It was silky, creamy and perfectly carbed. Floated on the tongue like a velvet pillow of stout.

Overall- Just plain delicious. Very, very well done.

2013 vintage

The nose on this one is great. Rich with chocolate and coconut. Vanilla, oak, and warming bourbon. Coffee and roast. The bourbon is really nice here.

Mouthfeel is smooth and warming. Full bodied. Ends with a tad too much roast.

Really solid offering. Very complex.

A- Black. No light getting through on this bad boy. Gives off about a half finger head very similar to Huna without the reddish tint.

S- Oh yeah. Chocolate, marshmallow, vanilla, some coconut and all brought together by the presence of a very high end bourbon. At 12.4% you would expect to have a harsher smell of alcohol but not here. All comes together very well.

T- Thank you. It follows the nose. Lots of the three elements listed above with the best bourbon taste I have had in a beer to date.

M- Thick and smooth. Thicker than Trace of Remy. Stands with the best of em.

O- To me this is only deserving of a 5 if it beats out the best beer I have had that is most similar to it. That beer is Bourbon County Rare. I have had the pleasure of having Rare twice and without taking anything away from it for me I prefer Remy's Pappy. It still brings that ultra high end bourbon with more of the flavors of chocolate, marshmallow, vanilla, and coconut.
