A first offering from this Northeastern local brew...not bad at all...

The most appealing aspect of this beer is it's look. A very unique, copper-ish colored beer, unusual in my book for a brown ale. The least appealing aspect was it's odor - or lack thereof. Try as I did, it was completely bland on my nose. No hints of anything, which was surprising as it had a very robust and rich mouthfeel to go with a bold, crisp taste. On that alone it probably is one of my more favorite brown's, regardless of the score I end up giving it here. Overall, a solid beer with a great look and very good taste.

Cola colored with off-white head. Aroma of cola, cocoa, earth, cinnamon. Tastes of cola, cocoa, cinnamon, hazelnut, light hop presence, earth, mild medicinal. Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a glossy burnt amber almost close to a brown color. Sly transparency weaves about. Finger’s worth of white foamy head roamed here and there. Semi-sticky lacing, kinda messy. The aroma starts off with the normal qualities of an English Brown ale, sweet toffee rich to nutty character. The flavor leans sweet and smooth. More toffee than expected, but decent. Sly crisp sweet nutty to toffee aftertaste. Sweet wet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fantastic sessionability about it. Carbonation seems to barely hit. Just really moves really nicely on my tongue. Overall, just a tad lighter in color than expected, but everything else is right on for the style.

Had this beer on tap at a Texas Roadhouse
Appearance: Very dark brown. I would say almost to the porter color but it was a low light situation. Not much head, but that is probably on the bartender. I've had this in a bottle and was able to put a head on it
Smell: Strong sense of chocolate and nuttiness. Light coffee and roasty notes on the nose
Taste: roasted malts, caramel, toffee, and chocolate. Little bit of hop spice
Feel: Light carbonation, creamy, not too thick or too thin.
Overall: Delicious. And an accurate representation of a brown ale. Loved it.

Close to two fingers of tan foam, nicely even surface, dimples such as it sizzles off, retention is okay, the lacing is full before falling down the glass sides. Somewhat filmy brown to orange hued liquid, you can see a lot of bubbles break the surface, nothing special visually. The nose shows considerable malt, cocoa, nuts and caramel, as much minerals to rust as smoke, fig to plum fruit, pleasantly innocuous. Light to medium-bodied, medium grade carbonation. Here the metallic, earthy side comes out and nudges the sweetness to the side. This not to diminish the persistence of the caramel, cola bean, milk chocolate to danish flakes and candied nuts. Less fruit, raisin and fig but lacking in concentration. The mouth feel is smooth enough but it leaves you wishing the core flavors were more robust. And that it did not leave that metallic bitterness behind at the end.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into Brakspear pint glass. It pours a nice cola color with one finger of fluffy, ecru-colored head and lacing with excellent retention. It smells of toast, nuts, coffee, and a whiff of caramel. It has a nice flavor of sweet, bready malt, caramel, and a hint of burnt coffee. It has no discernible hop presence and only a slight bitterness at the finish. The tastes blend nicely. This ale is smooth to drink, medium-bodied, pleasantly carbonated, and its ABV of 4.3% is barely noticeable. Overall, I wasn't expecting much but found this to be a pleasant Brown Ale

Pours brown with good clarity and proper hues. Thin head that fell fast. malty nose with a fruity backdrop. No hops. No diacetyl, nothing burnt or too roasted for malt. This is a mild brown. caramel. taste is good. Lighter nouthfeel with full flavors. Carbonation is moderate not biting and bitterness is low. Malt stays froward through the finish and lingers with a little nuttiness.
