It is difficult finding a place where you can bring your little one as well as beer loving visitors from out of State. And although I wouldn't schedule an job interview at the J.Clyde, I love treating business partners to memorable dinners right below Vulcan park .

The J. Clyde offers the best beer selection in Birmingham and the menu has surprisingly sophisticated variations on regular menu items. It is s not easy being a beer loving vegetarian in the Deep South but the J. Clyde offers some food combinations you should definitely try the next time your are in Birmingham. Where else in the world could you enjoy cornbread with a side of raspberry butter and Sweet Magnolia's Southern Pecan? Or grilled portabella on cheese grits with Sweetwater 420? I just wish they were open for lunch and I could have Sunday brunches with my family and an excellent selection of beers.

Since I m a grumpy guy after all, I have to add at least some criticism: There could be more restrooms (its a beer drinking crowd), and so far I had only 2 waiters which combined quick service with friendliness and serving skills.

I like to add that since I wrote the review I went back several times to receive outstanding service. I guess it just takes some time to get good waitstaff. (1,270 characters)

We were able to get in early and found a good seat (and a glass of El Gordo). Our waiter was really attentive; he even found me a great J. Clyde logo glass to purchase. My wife went nuts over her steak and egg. The chicken fingers are terrific. And the beer selection can't be beat. The patio out back was covered and heated since it was winter. I look forward to coming here again and surfing the draft menu. Wish we had a place like this back home. (457 characters)

Great spot for rare and hard to find beers in Birmingham. It is very dark and kinda dirty, but their selection is incredible. The major downside for me is that they have a single seat bathroom and there is always a line. They take reservations, so it can sometimes be hard to find a table to eat at. The food is great, I have never had anything bad there. The service usually is lackluster, but from time to time you get a good server/bartender. Must visit if you are coming to Bham! (483 characters)

Great selection of beers on tap and in bottles. Bartenders are knowledgeable. They do flights if you want to try a wide variety, just let them know what you like and they'll make you an interesting selection to try. Food is great, but a little on the pricy side. Try the humus it's fantastic! (292 characters)
