La Tripe à Trois est un clin d'oeil au style belge triple. Normalement de couleur blonde et tirant près de 9% d'alcool, la Tripe à Trois n'en fait pass exception. Cette grande bière à déguster à l'apéro est composée de malts québécois biologiques et de houblons européens. Bien que l'alcool colle aux parois buccales, les saveurs des levures enrobent le palais pour offrir une expérience gustative typiquement belge. Accompagnée d'un cheddar fort, cette triple saura plaire aux amateurs de blondes qui, sans équivoque, sortent de l'ordinaire. Les amateurs de bières complexes seront heureux d'apprendre qu'une partie du brassin repose en fût de chêne. De plus, une seconde partie du brassin fermente dans un deuxième fût de chêne avec des levures de type Brett-anomyces. Méconnues au Québec, ces levures sauront surprendre l'amateur de bière de tout acabit.

660/900, Big thanks to Hoppypocket for this treat.

Appearance. Pours a cloudy, rich gold-amber with 1.5 fingers of thick looking, nearly-white head.

Smell. Sour apples and tons of bretty funk, fairly dry. Just a hint of toasted light malts. Singin' "Funky Town" in my head now.

Taste. Whoa, massive funky brett, a little fruity belgian yeast and spice with some light malts. Very nice if you like the funk. High abv is very well hidden.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body, medium-strong carbonation.

Overall. Another great beer from À La Fût. Tons of funk and very drinkable. This brewery is quickly becoming my favorite in QC. Well done.

Draft: Poured a light copper color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of wet leather originating from loads of Brett and a cut dry finish. Taste is very funky with loads of Brett notes and some wet leather, light barnyard side notes which are quiet perfect. Body is quiet full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. First time I tried something from this brewery and I am now curious to try more.

A: Clear and light copper in color. Pours to 1 finger of bubbly off-white head and falls to a sudsy collar with a bit of lacing.

S: A pronounced sourness but not overwhelming, some sweet malt, a bit oaky; a nice big Belgian nose (banana, lemon), wood.

T: Wow, very complex! The big grain bill gives a round sweetness typical of triples but the Brett sourness really dries the finish off with only a kiss of hop bitterness at the end. The oak aging really mellows everything out.

M: Medium-high body and medium carbonation; smooth and round with the carb really lighting up the beer.

O: I very enjoyable brew; complex with a great mixture of sweet malt and tart sourness.

Poured from a 341ml. bottle, bottled Aug. 2011.

Appearance: A gorgeous orange-peach body, quite hazy with a good 3-4 fingers worth of head. Sticks around with decent draping.

Smell: Definitely some brett kicking the funk a bit with strong strawberries and some peaches.

Taste: The brett is undeniable (and great) with lactic fruit, strong presence of strawberries with some wood in there as well. A bit tart but also has some sweet fruit and ends with a spicy note.

Mouthfeel: Prickly carbonation is felt as is the acidic aspect which is not overdone but comfortable.

Overall: Very well done. Enjoyed the moderate funk as well as the fruit medley. Worth it for sure.

A: Golden yellow with a scant white head just rimming the glass, plenty of active streams of carbonation percolate upward.

S: Superb mix of bretta and triple. Mixes the sweet banana malts & cloves traditional in a triple with the funkiness of bretta topped with a solid yeasty profile.

T: Sweet flavors of over ripe bananas, spicy cloves, ginger and pepper finished with an undertone of barnyard funkiness. Like the smell, the yeast offers a strong note that supports the sweet triple & compliment the bretta funk. Surprising mix that compliments one another expertly.

M: Smooth and creamy, coats the palette well and offers a pleasant lingering of barnyard.
O: A surprising mix that at first glance seem like opposing forces, but the distinct elements of the triple and the bretta compliment each other like butter and french pastries. Each also manages to stand alone in both the flavour and smell. A creative mix that is surprisingly delicious.

Bottle shared by jerc on RB, bottle 601/900. 12oz bottle into a tulip. 9.2% alcohol. Bottled August 2011.

Poured an unfiltered browned orange, cream coloured head with light lacing and good retention. Nose has some light spicing, apple, musty brett, with an underlying sweet tripel character. Taste has quite a bit more barrel, pinot comes through, some incense/permanent marker like funkiness (odd but not really offensive), spicy, green apple flesh and a sweet golden tripel malt. Medium thick body, medium carbonation. A curious funk to this beer, a nice tripel with some certainly unique barrel/funk/brett going on.

A - Pours a mirky golden yellow color, small cream-color head, thin collar.

S - Oak, fruity, slight spice, some honey, and funky brett. Light sweetness from the base beer and the brett work together well. The 9% is really nowhere to be found. Good stuff.

T - Nice level of brett, fruits, sweet toasted malts, light honey. The alcohol is well-hidden for 9%. Finish is light sweetness and funky brett.

M - Light body, good carbonation, easy to drink.

O - A nice enjoyable brett'd Tripel that we all seemed to enjoy much more then the Pinot barrel version. I would have this one again for sure.

A: 1/4" cream coloured head over honey coloured liquid with good clarity.

S: Sour funk and yeast.

T: Sour funk up front which transitions midway to a sourdough bread and ends in a honey and pear finish.

M: Medium to thick viscosity and a medium to high level of fine carbonation.

O: Very surprising Tripel, I have had funk with my Saisons, but never with a Tripel. I believe this was because it was aged in chardonnay barrels? Either way its an excellent beer.

Bottle sampled side-by-side with Tripe à 3 Chêne. My bottle says 9.2%? Also, is this the same beer but with brett? If so, wouldn't it have more alcohol and not less? In any case, served in a Cantillon glass.

A - Thin off-white foam settles to a thin cap and a few spots of lace. Better retention that the other version. Body is a nearly identical translucent orange color.

S - The brett cuts out a lot of the sweetness, which is a significant improvement. Nice tropical fruits, more vinous barrel character, a bit of funk and leather, and some pale and stone fruit malts in the background.

T - Taste is quite similar, with pineapple and juicy tropical brett flavors complementing the base stone fruit flavors. Drier, with less heavy sugary flavors, and again minimal alcohol presence.

M - Medium-full body, lower carbonation, dry and mildly oak texture, and no alcohol presence at all.

D - If this is indeed the same beer as Tripe à 3 Chêne the brett really solves all the problems I had with that beer. This was quite enjoyable and I'd gladly have it again if I come across it in Quebec the next time I'm there.

A: A golden honey color typical to a tripel. A finger or two of large bubbled head and carbonation is easily visible.

S: You can definitely detect the Brett. A slight bit of malt sweetness.

T: A nice mixture of brett yeast combined with the malt sweetness of the beer. Bitterness is also appropriate. Honestly the alcohol is not all that detectable. Somewhat spicy and bread like as well.

M: Crisp and clean. Not too syrupy like some high ABV beers can get. Very bubbly and effervescent.

O: A good beer and one of the few Brett beers I've had.

This was a huge surprise from À La Fût, and ended up winning the platinum medal at Mondial de la Biere. The server told me that Trippe à Trois is a tripel with brettanomyces added, and then aged in a pinot noir barrel for four months.

Pours the colour of peach juice with a film of white head that gave up the odd lace spot. Pleasing aroma of vanilla, barnyard funk, juicy fruit and alcohol. Taste is layer after layer of complexity... perhaps a bit big and brutish, but damn good nonetheless. Strong fruit and berry notes provide the body, while the brett runs rampant and does its thing. The barrel aging introduces the deftest of vanilla touches, along with a peppery woodiness. Sweet, funky and spicy finish has a decent hop bite. Medium body and restrained carbonation.

This came out of nowhere, but deserved the accolade. Not my favourite beer of the fest, but certainly top 5. Reminded me a lot of Trou de Diable's La Buteuse Brassin Speciale.

Haed deep orange colour, 1.5 fingers of white head, some lace. Smell is fruity with a good deal of brett, orange and lemon, quite funky and musty, some notes that are similar to oak though I'm pretty sure this has not seen any oak, quite a nice mix of fruits and musty funk. Taste is a bit of a let down compared to the nose, still bretty and fruity with light tangy-yeasty flavours, lemon and green apple, good flavours all around but they don't come off as weemless as the nose does. High carbonation, medium-full body. Quite good and the nose is fantastic, quite drinkable and worth revisiting.
