Thanks to Papat444 for the trade on this one.

Bottle No.609/1500.

Pours a hazy golden/amber colour with a small white head.

A lambic/sour aroma on the nose with some hops, earthy notes and wood.

You can pick out the wheat in the taste along with some dried fruit sweetness, a little bitterness and hops, a blade of grass and a little wood. In respect to the barrel aging on this saison, when compared to other saisons, I think this could be what has given this beer the dried fruit/sweet aspect that it contains.

Medium bodied and well balanced, medium to low level of carbonation, just right for this stlye and gives for a slightly bitter-citrus finish.

Overall a decent saison with a little more body and fruitiness than most!

Thank you for this big want Papat444!

Appearance. Pours a hazy amber-orange with a thin almost-white head.

Smell. Spicy and lightly funky belgian yeast with a little sweet malt, bananna and light fruit coming through.

Taste. Light spicy belgian yeast with a light sourness, a little lemon and just a bit of sweet light grainy malt. The more I drink, the more I'm liking it.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with medium-strong, fine and lively carbonation.

Overall. A nice saison with a great ballance of subtle flavours. Can't say enough good things about this brewery, huge fan. Thanks again papat444.

***Bottle 308/1500***

Brewed for their anniversary.

Poured from a 341ml. bottle, bottled Nov. 2011.

Appearance: A hazy orange body with a thick 2 finger head and retention is good but not excellent.

Smell: Dry red wine, spices and yeast.

Taste: First sensation is acidic fruit which gives it a bite. Mix of light hop bitterness, acai berries and oaked red wine. Some pepper also thrown in there.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is alright, has some spunk.

Overall: Certainly not your average saison. Purists of the style might not like it but it is interesting and different. I like it but at the price it's sold, one is enough.

Served in a 3 monts beer glass

A: Amber color. Good persistent foamy head

S: Pretty intriguing, as you see the oak bringing additionnal complexity.

T: Really interesting, and totally original. It's a Wheat beer, and you totally get this wheat character. At the same time, you have a sour character, evoking red sour flemmish ales. And you also have a generous yeast character, like sourdough.

O: really not my kind, as it is pretty heavy. At the same time, totally distinctive, gota give props.

341ml bottle poured into tulip 24/4/12 bottle#616 thanks papat444 for sending me the bottle

A bright reddish amber with lots of little bubbles and suspended particles, thumbs width of off white head quickly falls to a thin film and leaves lots of random lace

S interesting nose with some peppery yeast, a little bubblegum, dry cereal, wet wood and faint sour vinous notes, its quite complex and I seem to pick up on different every whiff, some hops add to the mix with a little cherry candy

T some lemon zest and more woody notes then the nose, again its quite different, still a little spicy and quite earthy

M full for the color with lots of tiny bubbles, a little tannin, and leaves my mouth feeling a little slick, very faint heat and a long earthy aftertaste

O I wish my french was a little better but I think I read red wine barrel aged on the label and that would explain a lot. I thought this one was pretty unique and I rather enjoyed it

Something about drinking a beer without really knowing what I'm drinking always excites me for some reason. I might do my research and find out how far off I am with my interpretation. thanks again papat444

Thanks to papat444 for this one. Didn't jot down the bottle number, but the batch size was 1500 bottles. Served in a wine glass.

A - Generous white foam settles to a few wispy patches, a thick collar, and some splotches of lace. Lightly hazed dark golden body.

S - Lots of phenolic and peppery Saison yeast, some banana, grain, and a slightly funky diaper note in the background. Oak and red wine flavors are quite mild are largely masked by the peppery yeast.

T - Taste is more standard Saison, with stone fruits, unmalted grains, peppery yeast, and bread. Jason says 'wet dog', but I don't get that flavor at all - perhaps a touch of oak though.

M - Medium body, moderate-to-low carbonation, grainy, and slightly gritty texture, dry, tannic finish, and no discernable alcohol.

D - Easy to drink, but not the most memorable beer. I wish the wine and hop flavors were more pronounced. I'd have this again if it weren't too expensive.
