Poured on tap at the pub. Dark and opaque, with a tan foam on top. Aroma and taste of roasted malt, coffee, cocoa powder, bittersweet chocolate, some vanilla. Smooth and full.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, char, toast, smoke, toffee, dark bread, light vanilla, light floral, and roasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, char, coffee, smoke, toast, toffee, dark bread, light vanilla, and roasted earthiness. Sizable roasted/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, char, coffee, smoke, toast, dark bread, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness balance and minimal cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a pretty good imperial stout. Good complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors; but very a very slow sipper due to intense roasted/charred malt/bitterness. A fairly enjoyable offering, best enjoyed very slowly.
