Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: beerhobo22 on 07-03-2009

This medium to full-bodied beer, pale to amber in color, is most accurately described as a Bavarian wheat beer. The aroma and flavor of this unfiltered beer is decidedly fruity and phenolic — a big word for a brew that tastes like cloves, nutmeg or sometimes vanilla with banana-like esters.

Appearance: 1.5 inch head, high carbonation, gold in color, hazy

Smell: banana, coriander, and fresh wheat

Taste: banana, lemon, coriander, and fresh wheat

Mouthfeel: sweet, medium bodied and moderate carbonation

Overall: A really good domestic hefe where the wheat shines. It seems really fresh in the can. Hits all the typical marks in the style as the banana taste is spot on. Easily do a six of these.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Weizen glass.

Appearance: Pale cloudy yellow. Looks orange when held away from the light. A relatively aggressive pour plus the high carbonation produces a fast forming foamy head but subsides faster than I would like without much lacing.

Smell: Wheat, banana and only a hint of clove.

Taste: Strong wheat taste with a good amount of banana as well. The clove is pretty light. There is a lingering wheat aftertaste that just barely detracts from an otherwise outstanding tasting Hefeweizen.

Feel: Pretty high carbonation, with a very smooth, creamy body that is fuller than expected. Mostly dry finish.

Drinkability: Outstanding Hefe, up there with Schell's as a top echelon American made example of the style.

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a very cloudy yellowish orange with a lot of bubbles. About one finger of white head which fades into a thin patch. Leaves a good amount of lacing.

Smell: A yeasty, fruity, and spicy wheat driven aroma with hints of banana and clove. Wheat and pale malt with hints of straw, grains, Hefewiezen yeast, and cracker. Lots of fruit esters with hints of bananas, lemon zest, orange, apple, and pineapple. Hints of bubblegum as well as sugar. Spice hints of cloves, pepper, and slight nutmeg. A pretty solid wheat aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints at, a nicely fruity, yeasty, and spicy wheat driven taste with good notes of clove spice, banana, and other fruit. Upfront wheat and malt presence with notes of grains, straw, Hefeweizen yeast, caramel, and cracker. Good mix of fruit flavors with notes of banana, orange, apple, lemon zest, and pineapple. Good notes of bubblegum as well as some sugar. Spicy notes of clove and pepper as well as some subtle nutmeg. A pretty nice taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Nicely crisp, juicy, and smooth.

Overall: A pretty solid take on a Hefeweizen. Good mix of fruit, spice, and yeast notes.

Hazy wheat hue unfiltered 100%, beige head fine speckled lacing. Aroma big over ripened banana notes with clove and vanilla exploding on the senses. Flavor has bubblegum sweetness, clove and vanilla, a hint of citrus and malted wheat notes. Big over ripened banana pushes it into the realm of almost cloying, which doesn't settle well with me considering a can of Nebraska Brewing Eos hefeweizen cans in the Burgh will run you around 40 bucks plus tax. Needless to say there's many better PA brewed versions including Yuengling Summer wheat, the mouthfeel on this has some sturdy carbonation big malt layers, sharp wheat/citrus some balance but the yeast phenolics here are out of control with the ripe banana, vanilla, clove notes making it a bit cloying for me. Overall, still easy to drink and a solid American version of a hefeweizen just nowhere near as good as the German versions or Pennsylvania Deutsch population that has carried on the tradition of great hefeweizen.

12 oz can poured hazy golden-amber with a towering, foamy, bone-colored head. Very good retention and lacing.

Aroma: ripe banana, clove, apricot, Spicy.

Flavor: banana; light spicing; light baked bread; apricots; Spent grain in the aftertaste. Slightly bitter.

Feel: Medium body with soft but high carbonation.

O: very enjoyable hefeweizen with great feel and good complexity.

halfway between a regular wheat and a hefe.Decent drinking beer, not the best of the style. Orange coloured body, lacey. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. A little clove,a tad of bannana, understated carbonation and that's a good thing. On tap at The Ginger Man NYC.

Pours a hazed amber with 3 fingers of pearl colored head. Pretty average for lacing & head retention
S: Green bananas & doughyness

T: Green bananas, sweet breadyness pears, slight grassiness, slight metallic hoppyness up front. More green bananas, pears & metallic notes as this warms. Finishes with green bananas, sweet doughyness, pears & a little bit of dryness & cloves

MF: Medium bodied, slight carbonation

This impressed me, pretty well thought out hefe, very drinkable

On tap @ TJ’s (Paoli, PA) on 5/14/11. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a hazy gold, topped with a finger of bright-white colored head. This retains with a thin sudsy look, leaving back some minimal lacing. The aroma is very estery smelling, with notes of ripe bananas and spicy clove. A crisp bready twang of wheat is quite supportive underneath. The yeast really gives this some thickness in the nose.

The taste is a combo of bready biscuits and tight twanginess on the palate, with soft fruit and assertive clove flavors taking control. This finishes lightly grainy with some lingering dry fruitiness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a moderate crispness to the carbonation but this does have a certain amount of heft to it that unfortunately keeps this from being overly refreshing feeling.

This was decent. The yeast definitely added a healthy dose of flavor to this but also held the drinkability back some as well. Flavor wins out though in my book. Get a pint of this if you see it and take your time.

Pours a cloudy light amber-orange with an OK head and minimal lacing. Aroma is strong with banana with a background of grains. Flavors of bananas and once again backgrounds of wheat grains. Feels fruity and smooth going down and overall is pretty well balanced.

Pours a hazy golden color with a pure white head that settles into a solid ring. Nice banana aroma, with some clove and bubblegum as well. Not much else to say, spot on. The taste starts off with a lemony tartness which is followed by a candied banana flavor and some grains. A bit too sugary and not enough of the yeasty phenols but decent bavarian hefe taste. Light to moderate body with fizzy carbonation. Feels a tad thin for the style. The hefe drinks very easy and is fairly crisp. Good beer to drink outdoors while grilling food. Worth a try but it won't blow you away.

12oz can poured into a weizen glass

A- pours a pale and clear straw color with a small creamy white head that eventually disappears completely, leaving nothing behind

S- big fruity aroma of banana and bubblegum up front, with some crisp wheat, light bready notes & some earth

T- sweet and fruity up from with flavors of banana and clove, phenolic flavors add dimensions of musty yeast and crisp wheat that continues into the finish

M- light-medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a smooth crisp finish

O- an easy drinking hefe with plenty of fruity/banana notes

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bananas and spices. Taste is the same, some banana, spices, a touch of wheat, highly refreshing and the glass is getting empty quick. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a great warm weather session beer.
