Style | ABV
English Brown Ale |  4.80% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Our version of the classic English-style Brown Ale has a blend of six different malts and a hop schedule that results in a low hop character. The unique malt character brings to mind the taste of a blend of various nuts.

Poured into a standard pint glass: color is amber, head is dense and presents about 1/2 inch thick and laces the glass nicely.

Smell is caramel, toast, maybe some cocoa, earthy dry hops.

Taste is lightly sweet, similar to the nose the flavors present as caramel, cocoa, toast, hops are bittering, light earthy dry notes, not much flavor from the hops.

Mouthfeel is sharp, hard to distinguish between bittering hops and carbonation, then overtakes and dries.

Overall, a little to dry and biting for my preference on nut brown ales, flavors are decent but presence takes away.

Sampled last night on 7/11/14. From a local brewery that is just 10 miles down the road. Comes ONLY in a can just like their other brews. Can chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a pilsner pint glass.

Pours a pretty mahogany in color with a thin off-white head that last for a bit before settling to just along the inside of the glass. Some spotty lacing was seen. The aroma is just mostly of malt with a hint of sweet caramel. The taste is pretty much the same as most other English Brown Ales with the malt with some light caramel malt sweetness with a hint of floral as well. Does have a bit of a hoppy bitter aftertaste but had decent taste. Perfect carbonation for this style of brew. Overall decent and I would rate it higher if not for the finish.

Nebraska’s brews started turning up in our area recently and my family knows how practical beers make as gift items for me. A can of Brunette Nut Brown Ale was one my pleasant surprises.

Appearance: Crystal clear mahogany/garnet with a thin head, no lacing, and light carbonation

Smell: English malt sweetness with light floral or noble hop notes

Taste: A classic British style brown – like Samuel Smith’s, only fresher and richer. Nut notes from brown and crystal malt complexities with hops way in the background for the right balance. No bitterness in the finish, but rather caramel and some nuttiness.

Mouthfeel: Quenches with a light body and some smooth creaminess. Moderate carbonation is to American, rather than British, tastes for this style. Nothing harsh about it – a sessionable brew even for summertime – ABV is 4.8%.

Overall: This beer reminds me how refreshing brown ales can be even when they go easy on the hops: I will seek this one out and have some on hand for the brown ale aficionados in my family.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium to dark reddish brown in color with light to moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass with some faint amber highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a thick film covering the entire surface of the beer with a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of sweet toasted and roasted malts with a moderate amount of aroma of nuts.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of toasted and roasted malts with a moderate amount of sweetness. There are moderate flavors of nuts and a very light amount of earthy hops. Faint amounts of bitterness in the finish which does not linger for long.

M: Light to medium bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth and almost slightly creamy though a little thin/watery.

O: Not a lot of complexity to the aromas of flavors but this is a pretty easy to drink and enjoyable brown ale nicely packaged in a can - nice for outdoor activities in the summer. Low ABV makes this one sessionable.

Pours a very effervescent copper/brown with 2+ fingers of tan head. Above average head retention & lacing

S: Toastyness, a little bit of leafy hops

T: Toastyness, dryness, a little nuttiness up front. More toastyness, nuttiness & faint leafy hops as this warms, some brown bread sweetness as well. Finishes toasty, dry & fairly crisp

MF: Light/medium bodied, firm carbonation

Easy to drink, a pretty good brown
