Would just like to emphasize that Volkert's no longer is stocking craft beer. I was in the area, so I made a stop to see if anything decent was available... I was met by dusty 6-pack after dusty 6-pack of beer with expiration dates going back to various parts of 2008, many of those even from March-May. Knowing that there had been no recent restockings before I entered, I was hoping that I could find at least one beer that had aged well, but the craft beer shelves were covered in amber ales, IPAs, pilseners, etc... and I certainly wasn't willing to take a chance on any of them. Perhaps by blind luck, I found a new 6-pack of Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold stashed in a corner on top of some outdated brews, but I have no idea how those lonely bottles made their way there, almost certainly destined for expiration alongside their fallen comrades. Even if they had a constant supply of fresh Dortmunder, it's widely available at every local gas station and supermarket, not to mention beer store, so no real reason to stop in.

The $$$$ designation comes from an inability to understand why they are still charging full price for such outdated beer. This may be a fine stop for macros, lottery tickets, and cigarettes (but not American Spirits), but for craft beer, look elsewhere.

No longer worth the stop! They stopped getting new beers in 2 years ago and sadly many of those beers are still there

Volkerts Party Store has been a fixture in the area for as long as I can remember. My Grandmother worked there 20+ years ago! So when one of my friends told me I should stop in and check out their selection, I was really surprised as this looks like your run of the mill mom and pop shop. Well you walk in and up ahead to your right are some steps to go to the beer & wine "room". The selection is pretty good, the only thing I will caution is not all of the product moves so some has sat there for a while (Dortmunder Gold that was best by 6 months ago....last years Sam Adams Winter Lager). Despite that fact, they do carry some pretty good stuff and I'm constantly surprised by some of the stuff they get it. Service is ok, they don't really know about the beers, but they are friendly. With all of that being said, this is probably my #3 stop in town even though it is closest to my house. One other perk is everything is available in single bottles. So if you're around this place is worth a stop, but not if its your only stop, the Maggiores Drive-Thru in Meyers Lake (another mile or two away and my #1 beer stop in town) would be a better choice if you could only stop one place.

excellent service
decent selection
very nice employees
and very willing to order whatever you want in.

i really liked the vibe of this place. it was extremely relaxed and very welcoming to whoever. like the other guy said, it's basically a convenience store with a craft beer section.

i was the only person browsing the craft beer section and it didn't make me feel like a snob for standing there forever looking at different bottles like a lot of places do.

when i checked out, the lady was surprised and delighted to hear that the store was rated on here.

i will definitely make this store one of my normal stops when i'm in the canton area from now on.

Volkert's is a convenience store on Tuscarawas near I-77. There is a small private lot that is practically on the road, plus some street parking nearby.

The interior looks like most other convenience stores. There are coolers of beer on the first floor that are pretty much all macros, and there is also a small upstairs area that has another cooler of craft beer (and cold wines), plus a few shelves of beer.

As for the selection, it is decent. They carry beers from GLBC, DFH, Rogue (bombers as well), Stone, Breckenridge and others on the domestic side. There are a few imports as well from Belgium and the UK primarily. They also break down just about all of their beers into singles which is nice.

Service here is good. The people behind the counter were all very friendly and knew their beer pretty well, and additionally were helpful in finding a bottle of Lambrusco for me (it was a gift!).

Overall the selection here may not be better than anywhere else in Canton but it is always nice to see a mom 'n' pop type store carrying craft beer. I will always go somewhere like that first over a grocery store.
