Pours slightly hazy golden copper with a fingers worth of white head.

Citrus right off the bat with some metallic grassiness..fresh and juicy, some grain and malt in there.

Taste follows nose with more citrus, herbal tea like hop qualities, well balanced.

Decent body to this APA, refreshing..good.

One of my favorites from Elk Creek.

Had on tap at the brew pub.

Appearance – A light golden color with a very light tan head. It fades to give just a small layer of foam on top.

Smell – Citrus and pine hops are present at first. Not too strong and are soon lost to some more malty aromas of bread and lightly toasted barley.

Taste – Some breadinness meets the tounge with a bit of carmel and toffee sweetness. A small amount of floral and pine hop work their way in, but their presence is very little.

Mouthfeel – Medium to light body with a good level of carbonation. For the style done right.

Overall – A step up from their winkelberry. A very easy to drink brew for those who like lighter style brews.

A: Crystal clear light amber color. 1 finger of head with not much retention and no real lacing. Not bad looking at all

S: Piney hops, maybe a little citrus in there.

T: The best way for me to describe it right now is a toned town Torpedo from SN. A small hop kick from start to finish. Some malt in the middle with a nice lingering hop finish.

M: Not a ton of carbonation in this. Light is the best way I can describe this.

O: Solid solid beer. I think it would be a great way to introduce someone to the craft beer world. Also I could knock back a few of these in a session. Really great beer to have a few of at a time.

Poured via growler on 11/15/09, courtesy of akorsak.

A - The growler produced a clear pale, straw-colored liquid with sparse carbonation and a thin, bubbly white head that receded to a patchy film and left behind minimal lacing.

S - Light citrus and piney hop notes up front backed by a sweet caramel malt character and light toasted grains. A slight waft of alcohol enters the picture mid-way through.

T - Initial flavor is a bit heavier on the piney hop with just a hint of citrus and some herbal notes as well. While it's on the hoppier side of the pale ale spectrum, it remains well balanced by plenty of sweet caramel malt as well as toasted grainy and bready notes.

M - Light to medium bodied with a light syrupy texture and fairly moderate carbonation, resulting in a pretty crisp mouthfeel. Finishes slightly dry with a mild lingering bitterness on the palate.

D - Nice sessionable pale ale from Elk Creek with a more than average hop presence for the style. I'm surprised it took me so long to finally review this one. Thanks for sharing the growler, Adam.

A growler filled on 14-Nov-09. Shared with Deuane, SierraGS, ksak, brewslut, jecker, FooFaa and Ffejherb.

A: The pale ale is a copper hue, bright and transparent, with a finger of white head that left no lace behind.

S: The aroma is surprisingly crisp, very hoppy with a spicy presence that stands out above the sweeter pale malts.

T: Much hoppier than most APAs, let alone EPAs. The citrus and spice hop profile leaps out immediately, lending a vegetal flavor alongside the bitterness. Pale malts lend a mild sweetness to the ale, balancing out most of the hops (but not all). The result is a drinkable ale that doesn't hide its hoppiness.

M: The mouthfeel is a little too hoppy at times, forcing a concentrated vegetal flavor on me. For the most part though, the spicy hops and mild malts work nicely together.

D: The hops are more forward than I remember from past pints. I like that the spiciness doesn't shy away from the spotlight.

On tap at the brewpub on 7/12/09. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a fairly clear golden copper with a 1/2 finger of foamy brite-white head. Retains mostly around the edges, with some thin wisps in the center. This stays pretty rich looking, leaving a solid cascade of patchy lacing back. The aroma pops nicely in the nose, being fresh, floral, and a touch citric & spicy. A sturdy layer of bready Pale Malts glide underneath, bringing some needed sweetness to the smell. This is listed as an English Pale Ale but it sure seemed to give off some American attitude to me.

The hops are surprisingly aggressive here in the taste, with a blast of spicy bitterness that coats the mouth. Luckily, this isn't overdone, thanks to some fruity hop citrus character and bready malts that sweeten up the back before segueing into some light drying bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is lighter-medium bodied in the mouth with a firm and crisp feel that gives this quite the refreshing and quaffable nature.

Nice! This one surprised me a bit with it's full flavored hops presence, good balance, and crisp drinkibility. This is definitely one of the best locally produced Pale Ales in the Mid-State. I can't believe that it took me this long to finally give it a try. I won't make that mistake again!

On-tap at Zeno's in State College, PA. Medium orange-amber with a small, off-white, foamy head that diminishes rather quickly to a thin, lingering film. Some light lacing early. Smell is of juicy hops over some light, biscuity malts. Taste follows the aroma, with citrus flavors dominating both initially and on the finish, and moderatly sweet malts offering balance in the middle. It has a medium-light body, lightly dry texture and moderate carbonation. It's a good beer. Nothing special, but pretty enjoyable.

A-Golden yellow orange with a thin white head.

S-Sweet malts with a nice dry hop backing of citrusy hops.

T-Crisp and light with a light malty sweetness that is supported nicely with pleasant citrusy hop bitterness.

M-Medium-light body with a nice, crisp carbonated bite and a light body with a pleasant hop aftertaste.

D-Very pleasant, solid. The dry hopping adds a nice citrus pop. A well done and drinkable pale.
