The beer selection is surprising for Arizona, so apparently things are changing for the better. There are dozens of single 12 oz beers you can buy one of or make up six packs. All are priced individually, most are $1.99 but fancier ones are more. Lots of Arizona beers, far more than I've seen at the Total Wine, for instance. So far the brews seem to be in good shape. Everything is clean and tidy, so I'd expect they may notice when beer is sitting and getting dusty.
Also quite a few 22 oz beers, though not an astounding selection, as well as lots of six packs. Some English imports I hadn't seen and quite a variety of foreign beers though no obvious unusual Belgians. Typical supermarket non-service.
Beautiful, clean spacious store with all kinds of fancy stuff and lovely produce. Well worth a visit if you are in the south Phoenix area. Not far off the interstate at the Ray Ave exit, heading east.

AJ's seem to be pretty close in the running with each other. Some sometimes get a glistening nugget of gold in them, but this is a matter of luck. Overall, AJ's brings it, and other than whole foods, they are the boss beer supermarket. This particular AJ's hasn't produced any nuggets, but I have been seen walking out of there with the 3 rochefort's and a westmalle tripel in tow.
One nugget I did find here was Chimay grand res cheese. I know it's not beer, but for not being beer it sure is close and definitely worth mentioning.

Pretty nice selection for the type of store [upscale market]. Beer is in the last aisle on the left.
Nice amount of singles. Nicely organized and refrigerated.
Selection includes: Stone, Ommegang, Unibroue, St. Peters, Weihenstephaner, Duvel, Chimay, Ayinger, Paulaner, Aventinus, Rogue, Full Sale, Saison Dupont, St. Bernardus, Samuel Smith's, Corsendonk, and more...
If you are in the neighborhood and need a beer, this is a decent stop. Plenty of food to go with the beer. Of course, there are several other places to buy beer in the neighborhood.
