Bottle. Pours black with creamy white head. Smell is ginger, spice, clove. Taste incorporates the classic egg nog spices...lots of nutmeg, some ginger, cinnamon. Creamy mouthfeel...lingering sweetness. Not my cup of tea at all but it might stand out for those that appreciate egg nog.

Who can resist the lure of egg nog and stout combined together for a tasty holiday treat? Certainly not me!

The appearance of this offering was dark brown with a thin layer of head. The nose had the distinct and lingering smell of egg nog. The flavor profile is dominated by a fake and overly sweet egg nog flavor. The finish is astringent. This offering tastes too artificial to my palate.

black with deep reddish-brown highlights. cinnamon head that faded to a bubbly ring fairly quickly.

nose of nutmeg, cinnamon, bread, syrup, dark chocolate

taste - yum! not overly sweet, lots of nice bread and dark malt flavor along with the obvious spicing. spicing consists of nutmeg first then cinnamon with some vanilla in there also i think.

light, fine carbonation fitting of style. medium-bodied with slight texture left on tongue. mildly bitter finish that trails off smoothly.

this beer caught me off guard. i was expecting a sugary mess of exaggerated spices. quite the opposite - nice quality malt backbone and balanced, delicate flavors that remind me of Moravian Sugar cookies more than egg nog. i like this one so much i requested another bottle from my trading partner in that area.

highly recommended!

Split this with my cousin yesterday for Christmas, having heard about this brewery but having never tried this before. I found the idea of this interesting and after having this beer, my intrigue was fully satisfied. While I've had Stouts that were much better than this, the alcohol was well recessed and the egg nog just present enough that this turned out to be unlike anything that I ever had before. In a crowded world of craft beer, those are great traits to rave about!

The pour to this was as to be expected - dark, a bit thin, and with a fairly frothy tan head. Not a lot of lacing to be seen either but the thinness of this beer was the reason behind that. A good amount of egg nog in the nose, which was present in the taste as well. There was quite a bit of vanilla extract behind that, as well as gingerbread and milk chocolate. A good amount of carbonation led to a nice mouthfeel that allowed for the sweetness to fade relatively easily. A hint of brown sugar was present here and although some reviewers thought this was like a creme brulee, this wasn't quite that strong.

However, this certainly was drinkable. The alcohol was mild for a Stout and hardly detectable as I made my way through this. A bit of cinnamon of lactose might have put this over the top but as is, this was a great way to celebrate the holiday. In a season full of beers of this style, this didn't stand above many of those but certainly stood out from them. A must-try for anyone looking for something enjoyable, easygoing, and dark.
