Notes/Commercial Description:
The story of the Seven Gates comes from rural Pennsylvania, not far from the Spring House Brewery. According to the legend, a mental asylum for the criminally insane stood in the middle of a dense forest. Surrounding the asylum were seven concentric gates, preventing would-be escapees. One terrifying night, the asylum caught fire, causing the inmates to flee into the menacing forest. As the tale goes, the former asylum residents were trapped by the seven gates and eventually succumbed to the perils of the forest. The locals swear that the tormented souls of the inmates will torture anyone brave enough to attempt passage through the Seven Gates of the forest. Spring House Brewing Co. honors the local legend by producing a terrifyingly delicious brew that is as familiar as a friendly forest, yet possesses a mysterious quality that will haunt you from the first taste. The enormous, hopped flavor and the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into each bottle will have you believing that the master brewer must be a direct descendant of the former asylum residents.

12 oz. can poured into a Flying Dog goblet (no canning date)

A: Dirty blonde with a copper tinge. Poured with a nice thick 2-finger head. Nice lacing.
S: Nice even hop smell that is very well blended and polished. I get a hint of yeasty-ness to it that goes well with the overall light pine notes.
T: Hoppy, smooth and just a tinge of water that lets you know it is a pale ale. Mostly comes across as an IPA or a session one at that. I'm pleasantly surprised by this. The hops in this are delicious. This is a great APA.
M: Smooth with very mild carbonation that is soft and billowing.
O: I don't know the freshness but my friend picked these up a little over two weeks ago up at the brewery, so that might explain why this pale ale is so good. It is also out of a continually refrigerated can, so that helps as well.

notes from 6/18/2014 visit to the tasting room...
looks identical to robot surf factory with a transparent orange look and nice lace. this beer had some nice head.
fairly standard fare for a pale ale, lite citrus punch and extremely easy drinking...otherwise, nothing all that special.
