A refreshing ale brewed with real guava in honor of the very cool dudes at Two Dudes Painting Co. If you've seen the mural in the Taproom or the barn at the brewery then you've seen the great work that those dudes do.

Draft offering at the Springhouse taproom. The brew pours a clear mahogany to amber color with a white cap that holds with a thin film across the top.
The aroma includes some burnt biscuit grains over a strange yeasty component like veggies moreso than fruit. The more I smell this brew and attempt to enjoy it, I find myself not liking it more and more.
The taste has a solvent alcohol burn and vegetatie hop flavoring. A minor biscuit grain taste is present but the dominating flavor contributor is like perfume.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest level of carbonation. It overall is a bit clashing and just strange an not that enjoyable. I would avoid this one during future visits.

On tap @ the Spring House Taproom (Lancaster, PA) back on 5/7/11. Served in a pint glass.
Pours a clear copper (although I’ve seen this same beer poured with a much darker and murkier look as well), with a ½ finger of bright-white head. This retains with a foamy ring around the edges of the glass, leaving some light looking frothy swathes of lace down the sides. That Belgian yeast stands right out in the aroma, with a sharp and dusty smelling dry spiciness. This floats on top of notes of sweetness, both from the fruity aspects of the guava plus the more sticky accents of caramel and bread from the grains. The yeast is very strong here however.
The taste is similar, with a tingle of bitter green hops set against of backdrop of fruity guava flavors and sweet malts. That Belgian yeast once again makes an impression, lingering strongly in the finish along with some leftover green citrus flavors. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a lively crisp carbonation that fills the mouth. There is a little slickness to this on the sides, which keeps this drinking well for the size.
This is a strange beer, as some of the other reviews for this mention the strong Belgian yeast presence, yet others don’t. At any rate, I think that I would have much rather experienced this as a straight-up guava Fruit Beer, instead of having the Belgian influence, as I thought that aspect of it really detracted from the fruitier aspects of this. This is an interesting one that I’d like to see continue to be worked with.

On tap at the taproom.
A: The guava has is a darker amber color, still translucent even in the late afternoon darkness. No head. Although that seems to be standard for CO2 beers here.
S: The nose has a sweet guava presence, fruity but not cloying. Caramel malts provide a nice balance.
T: The sweetness is remarkable, an all-consuming presence in the ale. As the fruity flavors pass, malty caramel rises up to replace it. Together, the flavors work nicely, a sweet body that can't shy away from its citrus provenance.
M: The mouthfeel alternates between sweet and bready, a nice play on flavors for my palate. The ale has more sweetness than I was expecting, a fruit ale that carries plenty of malty baggage with it.

Another big thanks to Deuane and Carolyn!
A - Poured with a cloudy, purplish body...the head was two fingers and foamy...after it settles there is a solid, thin cap...nice lacing
S - The aroma brings attention to the yeast strain and Belgian spices...but it doesn't leave out the addition of the juicy fruit
T - A lot of the fruit flavor is juicy...I've never had a guava before but I couldn't imagine this is what it tastes like...the juiciness is gone and the spices dominate along with the yeast...you have your usual suspect flavors of underlying banana and slight bubblegum...the fruitiness comes back at the end a turns a little tart
M - Medium bodied...smooth with a touch of tartness and a pinch of spice
O - This was an interesting one to drink...Carolyn wanted no part of the growler after smelling it, but ended up drinking some...this is something I could drink, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to get it

On tap at Spring House Taproom on 3/2/11. Served in an Imperial Pint.
A - Deep, cloudy reddish orange liquid with strawberry blonde highlights akin to a pomegranate with a slim, off-white head that reduced to a spotty patch in the middle and thin ring around the edges. (OK, sounds like I am describing a chic with unfortunate male pattern baldness). This looks like freshly squeezed fruit juice. Served with a garnish of guava fruit.
S - Aroma evades me surprisingly, although I pick up on sweet, fruity notes suggesting tropical fruit and berries as well as subtle herbal hop notes. The fruit character is reminiscent of fleshy tree fruit and ripe melon.
T - Initial flavor is bittersweet with sweet fruity notes and an herbal twist. The tropical fruit gives this a somewhat juicy character, although I get more fleshy fruit rather than citrus. Finishes with moderate hop bitterness in the backend followed by a hint of tartness.
M - Medium bodied and quite bristly but not overdone. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and would benefit from a fuller, smoother texture. Finishes with a fairly sharp hop bite amidst fruity sweetness and a dash of tartness on the palate.
D - Wet Paint is a really interesting beer that is hard to wrap my head around. Was it amazing? Not really. Does it have mad potential? Absolutely! I like how the fruitiness counterbalanced the herbal and tart qualities, which made for a fairly complex brew in the end. I will be looking forward to revisiting this one when the next batch is brewed.
