Having this as an after-meal brew/ treat... got to wash my mouth out for a fresh taste.

Was pleasantly surprised at the overall depth in flavor. The odor is overwhelmingly minty-chocolaty and you would think it would taste like a liquid York peppermint patty... quite the contrary.

Upon sipping, I experienced a forward flavor of mint-chocolate, followed by flavors of burnt vanilla and chocolate/ cocoa, in that order. I was quite impressed that this was evident with each sip and even more impressed by the overall drinkability and lack of booziness. Each sip and swallow was more refreshing than the previous.

I can't express how pleasant this beer was to drink, in an unsuspecting way. When you have tried Du Claw's Sweet Baby Jesus, you know it is like drinking a liquid Reese's cup.

Satan's Bake Sale is what you would expect when visiting Lucifer at his yearly fund-raiser... a beautiful selection of different flavor's and goodies- all in the same place!

Only gave it a 4.75 because let's face it, nothing in this world is perfect ;)

At the taproom.

A: Black as night, the same deep hue as Planet Bean, Big Gruesome, Kerplunk and every other Spring House stout. An off-white head laced in a few spots.

S: Peppermint patty, liquified, with alcohol thrown in for good measure. This one'll clear up your sinuses. Chocolate, deep roasted stout scents, are present too. But the peppermint is really, really tough to overlook.

T: The stout body, well-roasted and thick, makes an initial appearance up front, a reminder of what lurks. The stout, though, is no match for the peppermint that quickly follows. This is in-your-face peppermint, a York peppermint patty pureed into liquid form. It lasts, providing interesting hiccups the whole way home. I'll throw my vote behind Braaaiins! over this one.

M: Imagine a pepper mated with a mint in some type of forbidding Dr. Moreau island lab. Drink it up, feel the burn.

A - Close to three fingers worth of rich creamy dark khaki colored froth... Solid retention gives way to to a full moderately thick veil of lacing... Both the head and lacing are equally inviting... Mostly still with just a couple of stray carbonation bubbles towards the very top of the glass... The color is a flat black... A good bit of lacing clings to the sides of the glass... Not a bad looking brew by any means...

S - No joke - This one smells like a 50/50 blend of freshly opened pack of thin mint girl scout cookies and freshly churned mint chocolate chip ice cream... The fresh mint adds wonderful depth and complexity... The rich dark chocolate notes truly accentuate the overall aroma... Very unique and very pleasing...

T - As expected the mint and chocolate notes are at the forefront... The mint takes one a fresh and earthy character... The cocoa chocolate nibs are secondary and nicely round out the flavor profile... However the two flavors seem to conflict a tad bit and don"t quite compliment one another as I would expect... There is also a hint of roasted malt beneath the surface...

M - Dense and medium bodied... Starts with a bit of sharpness and finishes a touch on the thin side... Limited carbonation... Kind of chalky... A bit off...

D - This one is a bit less then the sum of is parts... The solid appearance and outstanding aroma aren't quite enough to overcome a muddled flavor profile and slightly off mouthfeel... The end result is an average at best offering... I love the boundaries that Spring House pushes and challenges with most of their beers... Some are hits and some are misses... While I love the idea, this one is a bit of a miss in my opinion...

Poured from a bomber into a Brewer's Art goblet. Moderately aggressive hand. No identifiable date on the label. There is a cartoon momma-demon servin' up skull cookies.

A: Essentially black with dark brown at the edges. 1/4 finger dark tan head that quickly fades to a thin film. Nice lacing.

S: Dark chocolate with a mint flare. Some peppermint and some eucalyptus. Lightly nutty.

T: Roasted malt with tangy undertones kicks it off. Develops into a somewhat peculiar bitter-eucalyptus flavor. Semi-dry finish. Dark chocolate. Peppermint. Piney hop notes on the back end. No significant alcohol presence to speak of. A bit hollow overall.

M: Moderate to light carbonation with a relatively light body. Feels a bit thin.

O: I was hoping for a thick, stick-to-your-ribs stout-cum-York peppermint patty, but I don't think it quite delivered. Looks good and smells nice, but falls a bit flat on the palate. The bitterness seems out of place with the chocolate/mint. And the chocolate/mint seems out of place without any sweetness/malt/body. Had potential though.

Prost!
