Notes/Commercial Description:
Smooth and chocolaty, this pumpkin stout pours dark as night with a creamy tan head. A little smokiness on the nose with malty bittersweet chocolate and coffee tones give way to subtle earthy pumpkin and spices for a nice, creamy mouth feel.

Draft offering at the taproom by Spring House. The brew appears black in color with a quick fading khaki colored cap. As the head fades, it leaves stringy lace sticking to the glass.

The aroma opens up like cinnamon and nutmeg. A very mild roastiness lingers underneath but for the most part the aroma is quite muted on this. Nothing bad really but kinda lacking.

The flavor is lightly roasty with grain elements hinting towards bitter chocolate and some almost nutty grain appeal. Mild spice of cinnamon and nutmeg is present into the aftertaste but it is quite mellow.

This is a light bodied brew that is watery in the feel and moderate to lightly carbonated. Im glad to have tried it but really dont feel a need to ever have this again. Like nearly all spring house's stout offerings, it is thin and lifeless in the feel. If they could increase the body just a bit it would do great things for their entire dark beer lineup.

Review #1900!

Pitch black pour into a pint glass, with a small beige head; minimal retention and lacing. I can't really conceive a better aroma in a pumpkin beer than this. I mean, their Braaaiins is pretty good too, but this tops even that one. If there's a creamy milk chocolate vanilla cinnamony pumpkin pie mousse somewhere in the world, I'd imagine it smells something like this. The aroma really makes the beer here, and while the taste and mouthfeel fall a bit short, it's still worth multiple visits. Dark roastiness of a typical stout in the taste up front, cocoa, pumpkin pie and vegetal squash flesh, vanilla, cinnamon. Mouthfeel was on the heavier side of medium, but not quite full. I'd bet that if this was on nitro, it'd be stellar. Still, it's smooth, alcohol is well-concealed; it's a very nice beer overall.

Served on-tap in the Taproom.

A - Pours opaque black with a small one and a half finger tall head leaving small streaks of lace down the glass.

S - Smells of dark roast, pumpkin pulp, vanilla, coffee, chocolate and lots of cinnamon. This one has a lot going on but it works well together.

T - Starts off with a big dose of dark roast quickly giving way to hints of pumpkin, coffee, vanilla, chocolate, and a big cinnamon kick at the end of each sip. Lots of dark roast and spicy cinnamon in the finish, lingering on the pallet for some time. I think with a little less spice this one could be really good.

M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Smooth, roasty, feel with a constant spice from the cinnamon. Even with all the flavors going on it is easy to drink.

O - I enjoyed this one. The spice needs to be toned down a tiny bit to let the pumpkin come forward but it is still enjoyable none the less.
