Served on tap, fresh keg, at Tommy's Pizza, Pennsylvania, PA

This is my dream porter.

Appearance: dark as a stout, with an off white head and strange lacing. Immediately enticing.

Smell: traditional porter elements (roast malt, tobacco, chocalate), with a hint of Pecan and peanut butter. If the additional elements were more accentuated the grade would move up.

Taste: by god. I have dreamed of this. Smooth, almost like cask off a tap, with a solid alcohol burn. The tongue taste is pecan, obviously, with hints of caramel and peanut butter. Beautiful.

Mouthfeel;IBU's are low but present, and help define the taste and stickiness in the mouth combined with the malts. Pecan lingers gracefully, with the throat absorbing most of the burn.

Overall; best porter I have had in forever. Even better than barrel aged gonzo, my previous favorite.

On tap at Mari's 6 pack
Review from notes, drank on Saturday March 2nd 2013
This beer had a black color body with a large tan head, that hung around for a while. The aroma had a roasty, malty smell to it, with a hint of chocolate. The taste had a candied pecan flavor which complamts the hint of chocolate that came through as it warmed up a bit. The mouth feel was smooth and not thick at all. There was no after taste and i really enjoyed this beer.

on tap at the spring house taproom

Dark brown, nearly black pour with a thin layering of tanned head. Retains for a bit, fading into some wispy retention.

Very nutty and robust in the nose with candied pecans. Chocolate and caramel, roasted malts and soft alcohol presence.

Roasted/candied pecans with nuttiness and sweet caramel. Hints of chocolate and cocoa intertwined with the rich malt profile, delivering a solid amount of sweetness alongside a flash of alcohol warmth.

Fuller body, well carbonated, chewy and sticky on the tongue. The pecan nuttiness was tasty, but I was still hoping for a little more on this one.

Served on-tap at the Spring House Taproom on its premiere night. Poured into a 10 ounce miniature pint glass.

A: Dark brown body with no transparency, topped with a small tan head that dissipated quickly. Almost no retention or lacing is left behind. Nothing spectacular.

S: Robust porter qualities are the focus - dark roasted malts, hints of chocolate and some caramel. There's a overall general nuttiness to the beer, but it's hard to pick out the actual pecan nut itself.

T: Follows the nose, dark roasted malts coat the palate first with plenty of bitter dark chocolate and even some faint coffee beans. The nuttiness is back again but it's nothing overwhelming, just enough to add another depth to the beer. Good, but doesn't elevate the beer enough to warrant the name.

M: Well carbonated, medium-bodied and smooth. Very easy drinking beer for 8.30% ABV which I find is the case with all of Spring House beers.

This was good but nothing extraordinary. I wish the pecans would have had more of a focus in the beer, rather that being suffocated by the traditionally rich, strong Porter qualities. I'd love to try the next batch!

I had this on-tap at the brewpub in Lancaster. Served in a sample glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown with some red at the edges. There is a layer of smooth tan head that fades to a ring around the edge of the glass.

Smell: This one smells like a cookie. Nuts and caramel with some graham cracker. Sweet malt backs up the other smells.

Taste: Tastes like a milk stout. Chocolate and some of the graham cracker along with vanilla notes. There is a bitterness in the finish that ruins everything.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with lots of prickly carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: The finish wrecks this beer. I want the taste to be just like the smell.

Poured from a growler shared by Dan I believe, thanks! Dark brown with a medium head. Pretty standard aroma with roast and the associated acidity. Silky feel because of the serving type I believe, with dominant charred character. Oddly floral at times and somewhat nutty. It was ok.
