Served on-tap at the Spring House Taproom. 10 oz pour into a miniature pint glass, and a growler of it to go!

A: Dark brown bordering on a completely black body in the glass with a creamy, rich beige head. Good amounts of lacing are left on the walls, along with a decent amount of head retention.

S: Ground peanuts, oil, grape jam, cream, chocolate and some roasted malts. There's a very evident nutty and roasted dark malt aroma that is the focus of everything. It smells really good, a lot better than Little Gruesome did.

T: Peanuts and toasted malt start things off, and then a sharp sweet tartness of jam and berries comes in. It's gone quite quickly, and more rich peanut butter and hints of chocolate come in at the back end of the palate. This works extremely well and hits all the qualities that a peanut butter and jelly stout should.

M: Well carbonated, medium-bodied while remaining quite full. It's very nice and not watery at all, but goes down extremely smoothly.

This was a lot better than Little Gruesome since the base of the beer was a stout. All the flavors are there for a PB&J sandwich without anything being cloying, overdone or off. A new favorite from Spring House.

Growler courtesy of yourefragile. Served in a SAVOR wine glass.

Pours a dark brown color with a very thin off-white head and not much in the way of lacing. The nose brings quite a bit of peanut butter along with a touch of jelly in the background. It's not infected, which is a nice upgrade from others that I've had in this "style."

The flavor is more of the peanut butter, trending more toward peanuts with a bit of fruit and roast in the background. Medium body with good carbonation. Interesting concept, and pretty tasty as well.

From 03/30/12 notes. Growler shared by yourefragile; thanks Michael. Poured into a tulip.

a - Pours a very dark mahogany brown color with one inch of light tan head and low carbonation evident.

s - Smells of peanuts, roasted malts, chocolate, and light cream.

t - Tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, peanuts, and some light sweet dark fruits as well. Nice and a little better than the taste.

m - Has a thin, watery body for a stout and low carbonation.

o - Overall a decent stout, and another interestnig beer from Spring House. Nose has more peanut butter to it than the taste, but the taste has some nice sweet fruit like jelly. Worth trying and would like to try again, maybe on tap.

Half pint at the Spring House Taproom.

Looks like every other Spring House stout. Opaque dark brown body with a creamy, beige head that leaves thick sheets of lace as the head slowly fades. Aroma is dominated by the berry and jam fruit notes, grape and plum with minimal amounts of peanut or even roast malt for that matter. Flavor begins on the front of the palate with more the jelly fruitness and texture jumping out. The fruit is fleeting however as this quickly dries out to a generic roast stout and finishes with a dry, oily, slick peanut creaminess. Lighter side of medium body with very high carbonation. I prefer the peanut butter and chocolate combo of Big Gruesome for the better balance and integration of flavors, but if you're a fan of PB+J (and to be honest, I quite literally have never had a PB+J sandwich) you'll probably like this. As usual, Spring House knocks a stout out of the park (let's leave their other beers out of the conversation though).

Growler shared by Michael, served in a snifter. Beer is black / dark brown with a thin head, moderate to low carbonation (assured that this was more carbonated on draft).

Aroma is peanut and jelly, smells interesting and nice.

Beer is light to medium in body with this odd oilyness. It is an interesting beer but not great. These peanut beers seem to be the new rage right now. Not sure why but I don't think I'll have this again.

Growler shared by yourefragile. Served in a tulip.

A - Quick-dissolving thin tan foam settles to a thin ring, leaving stray spotty lacing. Dark brown body.

S - Smell is quite nice, with authentic peanut butter & jelly flavors dominating. A nice graham cracker malt flavor supplies some of the sandwich elements, and the roasted malts compliment the peanut character.

T - Taste is less successful, with more sugary jelly flavor, and a slightly odd bitter peanut finish. Somewhat bland actually.

M - Body is somewhat thin - I though this was closer to 5% than the listed 8.3%. Low carbonation, dry roast nut texture, and logically the alcohol is well-disguised.

D - Started quite promising, but ended up being fairly underwhelming. At least it's not infected I suppose.
