Draft offering at the Springhouse taproom. The brew appears a clear orange color with rising bubbles that maintains a thin film across the top. A full wall of webby lace sticks to the glass as the cap fades.
The smell is like perfume mixed with a faint clove yeasty spice and dry fruity aspect like pear or apple skins. There is a hint of phenolics and just an overall strange feel to the way this smells.
The taste is more bitter and herbal than you would expect in the style with a grassy flavoring. A very mild yeasty spice like clove and pear/apple skins is present before the solvent alcohol character comes into play giving this almost a medicinal feel.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest to light amount of carbonation. It is interesting and not dry like one might expect of a saison. It also has an aggressive bitterness and alcohol inclusion that doesnt meld well and really makes the overall enjoyment suffer. I know this is a line of experimental saisons so hopefully the next in the series is a bit better.
