Pours a beautiful brown with a decent creamy tan head that rings the glass all the way down. The cascading effect of the nitro draught just enhances it's appearance. There is a nice smooth caramel maltiness with slight nutty characters in the smell but it is overall a tad bit bland of an aroma. The taste starts off with creamy caramel malt with some subtle roasted flavors that keep the brew fairly dry and lead nicely into a decent chocolatey/slightly nutty flavor. The creamy smoothness of this brew off of the nitro tap makes it incredibly easy to drink and rather tasty. Another winner from this brewpub. (615 characters)

A: Chestnut brown with some reddish hues. Head is a little fizzly and lacking, and there's absolutely no stick going on.

S: Pleasant nut, chocolate, and a bit of smokiness along with some warm malts in the aroma.

T: Light, spent coffee flavours. Softer, roasted malts. Almond-like nuttiness.

M: A little flat, and lacking the creaminess to make up for that. Kinda disappointing in that regard.

D: Light and easy to swig, but I found it to be a little bit one-dimensional. (478 characters)

Reviewed from notes.

Pours a very dark brown color, nearing on black. A good off white head that fades down fairly quickly. Not too much lacing. The nose brings some caramel as well as light roasted notes and a bit of toasted bread. Taste is toasted bread along with some roasted malt. Feel is moderate with a bit of cream. Drinks fairly well but isn't very full of flavor. (374 characters)

Poured from 64oz brown growler filled at Trail Ridge Beer Summit at Beer Run (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Dark chestnut brown with basically no head -- it looks like a pour of iced black coffee.

S: The aroma is very sweet overall with lots of nutty dark maltiness coupled with chocolate and roastiness. Hops are subtled but add citrus, floral, and some earthy notes.

T: Good flavor, especially if you like sweet ales as there are good doses of fruity, nutty dark maltiness with nice chocolate and roast accents. Hops lend some citrus countering the sweetness, but it's malt-dominated to be sure.

M: The mouthfeel is dreadful unfortunately. Severely undercarbonated with a feel like flat soda or thick Kool-Aid.

D: The flavor and aroma is good, but the lack of decent carbonation really hurts this one. (805 characters)
