Visited on a Saturday night after Tech put a beat down on UVA. About half full. One of those places with no servers. You have to use a QR code for the menu and then order from the bar. Selection was lacking. I had the barrel aged porter which I thought was too thin and lacking in roasty flavors. Food was too greasy.

V: A polished look - that's the best way to describe South Street. It almost seems more like a regular restaurant than a brewpub, with a fair-sized seating area crammed into a relatively small space. There's a nice bar with the requisite bank of TVs over it (you do get a good view into the brewery area from the bar). In general, pretty nice, though I imagine parking could be a pain on busy days.

Q: Seemed to be a high level of quality here; nothing stale or off.

S: The service was very prompt and friendly (it was slow in there) and seemed knowledgeable about the beer.

S: A decent selection of 12 beers (all except 1 or 2 were South Street). They had some of their better offerings (the Acoustic Kitty IPA, Soft Serv stout, and Satan's Pony amber ale) and some of the lesser known stuff like Land of Milk and Honey and Hoo Rah Ray. A good array of stuff.

My wife and I stopped here for beers and dinner as the first brewery stop while on our two-week beercation. The brewery is located in an old brick building in the downtown area where on-street parking is scarce. A lot is located across the street but it was jammed. We found a space three blocks away. The interior opens to a large dining area and the bar is off to the right. The vibe is nice here. Our server was very attentive even though the place was busy.

It had been a long day driving and we were not far from our hotel, so we chose a sampler flight of all 12 of the beers that were available. The style selection was quite wide, so it was a fun night evaluating them. All of them were brewed very well to style, and all of them exceeded the typical characteristics for its style so that we gave an overall grade of B-minus to the beers. None were placed in an 'exceptional' category, but notable were Slippery When Wet Gose/Witbier hybrid, Barhopper IPA, Pie Hole Imperial Sour Wit, Soft Serv Ice Cream Porter, and Anastasia's Chocolate Fantasy Russian Imperial Stout w/ Raspberries. Well done!

The food menu was very nice with something for everyone. We ended up scoring the food higher than the beer, but that's not to take away anything from the beer. There is a full bar in addition to the beers, plus wine is available. Several TVs were positioned above the bar. Beer to go includes bottles and cans of some of the beers. This brewpub is highly recommended.

Stopped by for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. A few people there and there was a warm wood fire going, with seating in front of the fireplace. The decor is on the modern industrial side, brick walls, exposed wood beams, and industrial lights. Works for the area and is fairly comfortable, though the seats by the windows are a little on the cold side.

12 taps available, cover a wide range. When I was there they had several IPAs, the flagship barrel aged Satans Pony, the seasonal Anastasia's chocolate, a wild ale, and several DIPAs. Can do a flight or half flight, flight was $12 and half flight was $6. The beers were generally solid, nothing outstanding but nothing terrible either. As a side note, they also have Shenandoah Joe coffee, so my wife who doesn't drink was quite thrilled with that.

Menu has been changed over since last year as they brought in a new chef, the menu has more of a modern feel to it. My wife and daughter had the mac and cheese. Adult mac and cheese has a variety of extra toppings that can be put on it and is quite tasty. I had the hangover burger which is also quite good. Prices were fairly reasonable for the area.

Server was attentive and friendly.

Overall it's a nice place to grab a meal, the quiet was nice to just hang out in and the food was good. The beer was solid enough to warrant coming back.

Didn't have anything to eat, but the dining side was packed on a Saturday afternoon. Long bar and spacious bar area. Attentive and friendly bartender. Twelve drafts made on site and flights are available. The beer is solid, and enough styles so there is something for everyone.

My family stopped into South Street Brewery on our way back to Philadelphia from Washington D.C. It's a nice looking, highly polished place inside of an old industrial building. It has the currently popular "modern-industrial-retro" look with exposed brick, wooden support beams, blonde wood tabletops, and grey steel. It works.

We started out with good service as Colin R was friendly, catered a little bit to my kids, and suggested beers for both my wife and I. He seemed quite genuine, which really made the whole service feel more comfortable and "real" than when when you have a server who's more robotic and just going through the motions.

We started with "VEGGIE WONCHOS" which are fried wontons with vegetarian chili and smoked gouda cheese sauce. I thought they were a little lacking for $11, but they were a hit with my kids. Our entrees included Pot Roast Grilled Cheese ($13), Three Cheese Mac n' Cheese ($14), and 2 orders of Fish & Chips ($17). Everything was good, and my daughter and I could have easily have split an order of fish & chips rather than ordering our own, but I still felt it was a bit pricey. Our bill for 4 people with 3 drinks was $97.82 before tipping. Still, I saw it as an entertainment expense - a special treat - and we were all happy. I would certainly not dine here on a regular basis though.

The beers were quite good, and I was pleased by that. Had the quality of the beers been off the whole meal would have seemed slanted and over-priced... I would certainly stop in here for a beer on a regular basis!

Overall, a bit pricey, but ultimately satisfying.

Vibe: nothing to special. standard seating and bar area. used to be a little more of a nice hang out before the remodel. used to be more of a comfortable place to relax and play cards with a beer, now lots of college kids with their parents and a bit more of a restaurant feeling.

Quality: not the worst place that makes beer in town but that doesn't make it the greatest. some beers are pretty decent to good but nothing spectacular.

Service: they were pretty busy so service wasn't quite the best but we didnt have any problems.

Selection: this is the one area of improvement since the revamp. this is the brewery with the most taps in town. and they have even gotten to be a bit experimental, even had a spelt ipa and a unique lager. still with the experimenting and tap numbers there still isnt the best tap list.

Overall: if you really want to try out breweries in town this isn't a bad place to go but if your looking to drink the best beer in town I'd go elsewhere.

A typical college town brewery with just average beer, the college kids are all drunk and the place is rowdy, but what the heck we all love beer so, what else is there to do.
